Blushing, she looked back down at her knees as he continued speaking only to turn and even brighter shade of red when he called her sweet and beautiful. At any other time, Elayne would have probably been smiling and giggling a little at the compliments but right now she simply felt numb and other then a faint smile didn't do anything else. When Alaric went on to tease her about her being the problem, Elayne looked back at Alaric ... he was right, Ez hadn't really given her a reason and- ... what had he just said ... . Before Elayne could think of a response to what he had just said, Alaric had leaned over and thunked her forehead lightly, making her close her eyes briefly more out of surprise than anything. After hearing what Alaric had to say, Elayne smiled slightly."Yeah ... I guess you're right,"Elayne replied quietly,"I am being too hard on myself ... it's just, he was my first boyfriend and ... I trusted him and now ... ,"she continued, pausing as her voice caught in her throat and looked out at the sea once again,"It seems that every time I trust ... I get hurt or ... betrayed ... I just ... . If there's not something wrong with me then what ... why does this keep happening ... ?",Elayne whispered, still staring at the sea as she spoke. It was the same question she asked herself whenever she was hurt ... in the past, Elayne had blamed it on her mother for making her life miserable in the first place what with the posters and all but not this time. Ezio had had no motive, no secret reason for getting close to her, he had wanted her not the money ... something must have happened but right now, Alaric's reasoning that he was a jerk was the only thing that made sense. Elly stiffened slightly when Alaric leaned closer to Elayne and hissed quietly when he thunked Elayne but relaxed as soon as it was clear that Elayne was fine. The Espeon was still leery about Alaric, but as he continued to speak she relaxed ... Alaric seemed like he did care about Elayne at least, and as long as he didn't hurt her anymore Elly wouldn't do anything to him.[/scrolly]

Alaric couldn't decide whether to grin or grimace at the first boyfriend comment. On the one hand, it was adorable and made a lot more sense; on the other, it made him think of his own first girlfriend (not helped by the fact Elayne could have easily been about the same age they'd been back then) and... RIGHT moving on! He continued to listed with interest until finally falling into a look of skeptic confusion. "Hey now, hang on. If he was your first boyfriend, who else hurt you so badly?"

After a few moments had passed, Elayne closed her eyes and breathed out quietly,"It's ... complicated. The more appropriate question would be who hasn't hurt me ... ,"she said in a quiet voice before looking at Alaric," ... I guess that's why this hurts so much ... . I thought it would be different ... with him ... but I was wrong ... ," she continued, her voice cracking slightly as tears threatened to choke off her words. Elayne pulled her legs in closer to her as she looked back at the ocean again and rested her chin on her arms. "I just wish I knew why ... ,"Elayne said quietly more to herself than anyone as she continued to stare at the ocean.[/scrolly]
