Layton nodded as she sat down, choosing to stand some feet away instead. He wasn't fond of being close to people anyway, and after realizing what this easily could look like--not that he expected to be "caught," as it were, but he felt it very ungentlemanly indeed to do anything but stand.

He then listened, quite patiently, his face showing the shock one would expect upon hearing of her father's murder. "I'm terribly sorry," he added in a pause in her talking.

At the gun, Luke seemed to--almost sulk. Oh. So this wasn't their sort of mystery like that one time with the Elysian Box and how Folsense turned out to really be--

The Professor interrupted Luke's train of thought by asking Carly, "I--I assume the local police already looked into this and found nothing...? I am quite willing to help how I can, but I'm no detective, the--the mysteries I've figured out tended to be less murder-mysteries than... Than strange happenings, I suppose." His voice was definitely not as confident as it had been some minutes ago. He supposed there was that one time--well, and that other time too...but neither of those turned out to actually be murders after all, so they didn't count in his mind.

I met my brother because of it so things turned out all right I suppose. But the police didn't really look into it ... I mean, how would they miss something like this if they did? I remember that night clear as day ... as much as I've tried to forget it I never have been able to. Do you want to take a look at it at least? Maybe I missed something, but I've scoured my brain and can't think of anything else to do. I though maybe another person's opinion might help, and since you're so good at puzzles I thought you might be able to help." she replied in a more quiet voice this time, glad that Rina was there at the very least. Normally Lyall would help her out, or she would get Mr. Fluffles out, but neither was an option right now.[/scrolly]

Layton got a handkerchief out of his pocket, and gingerly accepted the handgun shown to him. While it likely was empty and/or had the safety on or something, considering it had not gone off in young Carly's backpack at any point, he still did not want to take any chances.

He examined it closely, making sure to always keep the barrel aimed down and away from anyone present, and his hands away from the trigger. He didn't know much about firearms, but but he did know they were supposed to have serial numbers--he wasn't sure where it was supposed to be, but there was a suspicious patch that seemed to be filed smooth.

"How long ago was it you said this--this happened?" He didn't recall if she actually had said; since she was able to talk about it at all, it was likely some time ago, but possibly she was just a very emotionally strong (or inexpressive) young girl.This was honestly doubtful, though.

Luke, bored with no intriguing happening to figure out what's really causing it (only a murder that--honestly--is pretty obvious how it happened, and Luke didn't totally understand how murder was even all that mysterious) went to see if he could find any Hidden Puzzles in the bushes or maybe on the stone tiles below them, or something.

I think it was ... 5 years ago ... it could be more though, I'm not entirely sure,"she replied in a rather quiet voice, holding Rina rather close to her as she spoke much as she would have a stuffed animal."Do you have any other questions? I'll answer them as best as I can ... ."[/scrolly]

Layton sighed when she gave the number. Five years. That makes this a very, very cold case. "Two. The first is to ask if you are certain that this is indeed the murder weapon--if the house was uninhabited, it is possible that this is a different weapon--unlikely as it is, it is a possibility. The second question is if you remember any faces, nicknames, or anything else to identify your father's killers--with a case this cold, that is about the only way to find the villains who did this."

At that moment, Luke dashed back to his trainer and called, ''Fessah, 'Fessah! I found one! A 'idden puzzle! The whole maze, 'Fessah, it's--'

"Quiet, Luke! This is not the time for that, I'm sorry." He was stern, and clearly unhappy with Luke, but not terribly mad or mean about it.

Hearing Layton's questions, Carly looked thoughtful,"I saw him shoot my father with it of that I'm positive. I relive the same night almost every other night ... it was in an alley on our way home. I could actually show you where if you wanted to take a trip ... and if you had any psychic Pokemon with you. I think ... the man had a pirate flag tattoo ... but it was dark and his tattoo was quite frankly the last thing I was thinking about at the time," she explained before Luke came running back. Laughing, Carly shook her head,"Don't be, I'm quite used to it with Rina here, she's more hyperactive than Luke is if that's believable,"she replied in a happier voice before looking at Luke,"Would you like to meet Nyx my Zubat? I think she'd be interested in what you found~." This said, Carly shifted so that she could pull out said pokeball and held it out for Luke to see.[/scrolly]
