Dressed in her usual male clothing with her hair tied back in its general cloth bun, Nero Ishi walked to what had once been the Clock Tower. Though with as many times as she had been out around broken areas such as the Eran Castle, one might have expected to see her there to pick some sort of herbs or the like. However, this was not the case today. Unlike on the days she picked herbs, Nero wasn't carrying anything outside of a bag at her shoulder that probably would have allowed such plants to be crushed anyways, and even that wasn't really necessarily but was generally what she carried when headed out.
No. She'd come to check over the Clock Tower ruins. It had been more than sadness that had managed to worm its way into Nero after the bombings, and for a long time, she had avoided the Clock Tower for reasons she couldn't quite explain herself. The bomb in the commercial district, though close to her house in the capital, hadn't been what had affected her, really. She actually found herself lucking among other things considering she had just got home from some last minute shopping when the force of the bombs had shaken her apartment slightly. The fact that human lives had been taken hadn't fazed her much either though it had instilled a worried that a few of the Yakuza members might have been in it. However, she found herself unable to find any way to contact the ones she worried most for and finally resorted to believing that none of them could not die from such an explosion rather than anything else. It was a tight and sort of formless solace but peace none the less.
What had really gotten her was the news that the Clock Tower had been destroyed. She had been there often over the past few months if not longer and had come to like the building quite a lot. It had been where she had first met that person whom had been like herself... and it had also been where she had met a considerable number of Steel Type pokemon. The thought of its destruction on op of the thoughts of what pokemon had probably died in the explosion was unnerving and sad. Thus, in a sign of weakness that she would later force herself to defeat, Nero had avoided the ruins.
However, that day, she had decided enough was enough. She would see it whether she wanted to or not, and thus, she had made her way over. Upon actually catching sight of the rubble and the like, Nero froze and stood there staring for a few seconds wordlessly. After a few minutes, she forced herself to step forwards and drew closer and closer still.

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] He was asleep, and would be for many hours. At least, that’s what the doctors had told him. That and the usual announcement that rest was important at this stage. Lance understood that but… it didn’t stop him from pacing back and forth in Felis’s room. Eventually he was annoyed enough with himself that he announced he was going for a walk. And a walk he did. However, when he made it outside he found the Capital he once knew had changed considerably. There was no reason to ask why, of course. He knew very well why it had changed.
After what felt like hours, though in truth only about fifteen minutes had passed, Lance found himself walking up to where the old clock tower once stood. Or at least, if he was remembering right. It had been a long time since he had been in the capital and he had never really hung around long enough to study the tower or explore the tower. Even then, it wasn’t the tower that was on his mind. It was man who had harmed Felis that was on his mind. He needed…. Well, a way to repay the man for his actions. He had almost killed Felis. Though in the end Lance was certain he could use this to advantage, he still wasn’t impressed with the man’s actions. It was too risky. Only the extremely skilled had a right to risk such a thing. Lance didn’t know for certain, but he felt that any man stupid enough to get locked up wasn’t skilled enough to be testing fate.
As he continued to think things over, Lance’s ears picked up the faint sound of movement. Though usually he would ignore such a thing in the capital, he found his eyes lifting anyway. With the rubble around him, he really didn’t expect too many people to be out there. Though even as he lifted his eyes he didn’t expect his gaze to come upon anyone of importance. If anything it would be a simple beggar searching for craps and valuables. A useless search, Lance was certain. After all, anything valuable in the clock tower would have been stolen long before it fell.
Yet it wasn’t a beggar Lance found himself looking at. Instead it was a face he recognized. “Nero?” he spoke the name, an eye brow raising as stopped walking. “It’s been a while.” When was the last time he had seen the man? If he remembered correctly he had given him a job. They had then settled down to some tea only to get into a disagreement. Lance had left after that.

Dark brown eyes searched for anything that was even closely representative of what the tower had once been, and yet she found nothing even close to what she was looking for. All that could be heard was the quiet sounds of breath being taken in and released again, that was... until the sound of feet caught Nero's skilled ears. Almost instantly her head turned, though it kept a rather controlled swing of sorts, and as she found herself staring into the face of Lance, her employer of sorts, she stared at him without saying anything.
As he greeted her, or rather just questioned the name before stating some factory made line that had been said many times and many ways before then, Nero stared still before nodding her head slowly and turning her eyes away to stare at the rubble again. "It has been," she agreed after a moment as the thoughts of what had happened on their last meeting had come about. "Work's been done, by the way," she stated in her almost flat tone. "All except for one that has 'gone missing'." Whether she was lying or not didn't play into Nero's face, but if Lance had read the obituaries sometime after the attacks on the capital, he would have found the targets in question. It was said that they family had been in the bombings, but from the way Nero's tone and mannerism was at the moment, ambiguity began to settle in. [/scrolly] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] Lance listened as Nero spoke, nodding his head as she claimed that ‘work’ had been completed. So it had, though he had one issue with that. Well, two. A missing child and a news report. “I heard rumours that the family was killed in the bombings.” a small smile grew on his lips for a moment, “I see that a cover up has been completed. But my question is, for or against you?” Had he covered up the murders to keep others from believing it was him or had he used the bombing to cover his own ass? Either way, Lance planned to find out. That smile on his face had faded. “Do you have proof you killed them?” He asked, one eyebrow raising. It was, of course the only way Lance would know for sure. Yet at the same time… Something about this man intrigued him. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but he enjoyed the company of the man, despite their last disagreement. Perhaps it was the tea? Proof or no proof, Lance still intended on paying him. Otherwise he was certain he would have a hard time getting Nero to take another job.

Despite this, as the questions came, Nero slowly looked sideways and stared at him with a rather blank expression.
"They were out shopping on the night of the bombings," she answered back looking away again and focusing in on what looked like some sort of gear remnant. "I'd been tracking their movements for a long time considering previous circumstances." That she left ambiguous, of course. "I didn't even know the bombings had gone on and had already disposed of things... though those idiot bombings happened to reveal the bodies again." Her voice remained monotone, forced into control and a blankness in her demeanor.
The next point of proof brought a quiet smile to Nero's face though it faded in another moment. "There's a difference between a serial killer and an assassin. One kills because he can and feels stronger because of it. It is only he that is stupid enough to keep evidence against himself. Assassins know better. They kill not as a proof of strength but because they get paid for it as a job. They would never incriminate themselves nor would they keep any evidence that may be used against them later on." And thus, Nero fell silent again.
In the back of her mind, something twitched in Nero, but she didn't show this in the least. [/scrolly] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] Lance almost wanted to cut Nero off as he went on with a lecture about the difference between serial killers and Assassins. It almost made him regret asking at all. None the less he kept himself from cutting him off and instead let out a sigh when he finished with the lecture. Closing his eyes for a moment and placing a finger to his temple Lance replied, “Alright, I will take your word for it.” His eyes flickered open again, looking at Nero, “But I expect the next assignment will not show up on the news as someone else’s job.” He added before putting his hand inside his coat pocket and pulling out a small black book. Within the book he retrieved a small black pen and began scribbling something inside it. After a moment he replaced the pen and pulled off the paper he had written on, holding it out to Nero and revealing that it was a check. “Your payment, as promised.”
Once the money was out of his hands, he let out another sigh, eyes roaming around the broken land. It almost seemed… sad seeing all of the destruction. Yet at the same time it raised many questions in Lance’s mind. He knew he hadn’t set off the bombs and partner hadn’t either. Aside from them, he really wasn’t sure which other rebels were still active. He knew there were many, and that Jacob had most of those contacts but still… if it wasn’t the rebels they knew, than who was it? A gang? Well… it didn’t matter in the end. So long as they didn’t get in his way.
After a moment of looking around, Lance finally slide his eyes back over to Nero. “I want you to kill a man, but it wont be easy to find him. He goes by the name of Sen. Has long red and white hair, though there is a chance he could cut it. All that’s really known about him is that he is a thief who’s constantly on the move. There are wanted posters of him on the wall if you need a better description. He may be in a gang, though their name is unknown.” Little did Lance know, that was the gangs name.

Brown eyes found their way onto yet another gear and stayed there for a few seconds before moving onwards and finally making way back to Lance as Lance made the check, Nero reached sideways and took the money before setting it in what appeared to be just inside of her coat. "Thank you," was the only reply to that.
Though she wasn't going to admit it just yet, Nero was glad to have the money though she hadn't expected to receive it that day. The money that she had currently had been running out as of late, but this payment would instill at least some more financial security for a while. Feeling eyes return to her form, Nero looked sideways at Lance again waiting for whatever he was about to say. At the words, Nero's eyebrow raised slightly. She did, in fact, remember seeing that name and face on the wanted posters that she still tore down whenever she happened to see them. "He's not a noble," was the observation made as if it weren't obvious enough to the both of them with the information given. "But if he is in a gang, there may be more trouble involved." She disliked getting involved in other gang strife that may lead to her own beloved Yakuza crumbling even more than it had. It was bad enough that the members were fading slowly away somewhere into nothingness, but if she were recognized as part of the Yakuza by this supposed target.... Though the realization that came after slowly sealed everything together. It wasn't like the dead could speak anyways. [/scrolly] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] Lance stood rather still as he listened to the mans response. He had expected to hear as much. He had told her nobles but things had changed in the course of one day. None the less, he was far from worried about the other mans response. “No, he isn’t a noble.” Lance replied, shifting a bit on his legs as his voice became more confident, “But he jeopardised my plains and almost prematurely took my brothers life. None the less…” His lips curled in a small smile, “If you will not kill him, I know others who will take the job.” Which wasn’t a lie at all. He knew about two others who would do it, however, one had intentionally let two of his victims go and the other Lance had not seen in action. He felt more… appealed having Nero do it. He liked his style over the other two. |So, what do you say?”

"You mean you know of two others that would take my money," she replied dryly. With the previous check written already, it wasn't like she needed any more money, but still it was better to find herself more financially secure than not especially considering other jobs had become a bit harder to come by as people fretted and scuttled around too afraid to actually act due to some sort of unseen bombers that had now settled upon the city and bits of the nation.
"I'll look into it. Tracking shouldn't be too hard if he is part of a gang. I know a considerable amount of groups outside of the Yakuza," she finally confirmed before looking away from Lance. What was meant by 'know' actually came more or less not from direct knowledge but from what she had recorded and heard here and there. "...What were you doing in the capital?" was a question that finally came up. The thought that he had been in the hospital looking after the brother that had just been nearly prematurely killed hadn't occurred just yet. [/scrolly] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] Lance smirked at Nero’s correction to his claim about the others he knew who would take the job. He couldn’t argue it. After all, he was correct. They were in for the money and nothing more. Then again, he was certain that Nero wasn’t in it for anything else either. Of course, he didn’t voice this. He wanted Nero to take the job after all. Luckily for him, Nero did take the job. Well, for the most part. It wasn’t a complete yes but it wasn’t a no either. However, if Lance knew assassins well enough, it would be more of a no than a yes. This just simply left room for Nero to screw up and not lose the job over it.
Before Lance had time to give Nero more than a nod to confirm, Nero had asked him a question. It was a simply enough question but it caused a rather sour look to cross his features. “My brother is being cared for in the hospital here,” he answered coldly before shutting his eyes and turning his head, “I’m being a respectful brother and waiting for him to awake. Though I was told that wont be for another few hours.” His eyes opened again and he gave Nero a sideways glance. “And what about you? Why are you hanging about this rubble?”

Rather than say this, however, Nero simply nodded her head in affirmation. As the question was returned to her, a slim and quiet smile came and went from Nero's face. "Nostalgia, among other things," she answered back in a sort of dry tone. "There were Steel Type pokemon here that I used to know and be friends with. I also met a rather interesting friend here as well," she sighed a little slowly looking upwards towards the skyline rather than the building. "I feel sorry for all the pokemon that were killed." [scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] “Nostalgia?” Lance asked. He knew what the word meant, but he confused as to why he would be yearning for the past. Luckily enough, he had answered the question anyway. He missed the pokemon a being he once knew. It was understandable he supposed. “In times of war, many innocents die. It’s the price to pay so they say.” Lance replied sounding less then sorry for the pokemon and any humans who may have lost their lives the night of the bombing. In his mind, they were nothing more than pokemon. Pokemon he hadn’t even known. Why bother worrying about them? It wasn’t like it affected him any. “And here I thought assassins were suppose to be cold hearted bastards. Yet here you are, paying your respect to the dead.”

"We are cruel bastards," she rephrased Lance's words. The word bastard in general oddly fit her, sadly. If that man who had paid his half to bring her into existence was still alive, she wouldn't want to meet him. It was oddly easier to ignore that he had ever existed. "We care for no one but ourselves and how quickly we can turn a profit." She was lying quite a bit now, and she knew it well enough due to the memories of the Yakuza flooding the back of her mind. She missed them...missed Kamui and Raiden and Maverick and so many others, but she refused to show this to anyone let alone the man who was funding her assassin expenditures. [/scrolly] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] Lance’s expression went blank as Nero corrected him once more. His body straightened as his hands folded in front of him, all but listening to the other mans words. When he finished speaking Lance’s eyes narrowed slightly and his lips pursed for a moment. “No, if that were true you wouldn’t be here. Nor would we have had a less than enjoyable argument the last time we spoke. You care if you want to admit it or not.” Nero couldn’t possibly be saddened by the deaths of these pokemon if he didn’t care. Nor would he have gotten so upset at Lance for their disagreement. On top of that all, if Nero did not care, then the safety of his gang would mean nothing to him. No, Lance was no fool. He could see through the lie despite how convincing his tone and gestures were.
“But who am I to judge such things, hum?” He asked, allowing the stiffness of his body to finally relax as he turned and began to walk a bit. His dark blue eyes searching the sky but looking at nothing in particular. “I claim to have a heart of ice yet I can not hide the fact that there are a few I care about. Nor can I hide the truth that I often find myself lonely. It depresses me. However, it’s my price to pay.” He wasn’t sure where he was going with this. He had a point in his head at first but it somehow got lost in his own confession. Now he simply felt like finding a quiet, somewhat fancy bar to sit down in and wash his worries away. He couldn’t though. He was expected back at the hospital before his brother awoke. He couldn’t ruin such an easy way to get that much closer to his enemy.

Rather than blank, it reflected something a bit sharper than that and almost threatening as if one more word on it would make her retaliate. However, this was for a brief moment, and her head turned and stared at the wreckage instead focusing on the details of the grain was though that were more interesting at the moment.
As Lance began to walk and continued to talk, Nero didn't follow nor reply quickly after that. The last wording was enough to draw a quiet breath from Nero, but she released it in another moment and looked off towards where he had started walking. "Then we are the same," was all she replied with before slowly starting to walk as well though not directly following Lance but keeping to his general direction. Rather than stare at the sky, her eyes remained on the ground searching for remnants of things almost aimlessly. [/scrolly] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] Lance wasn’t certain as to where he was walking to, and he certainly wasn’t walking in a straight line. If anything he was more wondering, his feet exploring the land and it’s new terrain. It was amazing how easily the humans could reshape the earth. A power you would think should only be held with the pokemon.
When Nero finally replied, Lance stopped for a moment, his body twisting as his eyes fell on him again. “The same?” He thought on that for a moment, before turning, his feet moving once more, “I suppose we are yet for different reasons.” Interesting how it was, that the employer and the employee both felt the same burdens as one another. Yet as he thought about it, his mind began to wonder a bit. At first to Felis and then an odd thought. “I’d almost consider asking you to be my personal body guard.” He spoke the thought aloud though was unsure of how Nero would react to such a suggestion. “But with your face on the walls of our cities and my brothers position as Duke…” It would be risky for them both. Lance almost found that single fact depressing as well.

Had he come to fear death in such a short period or something of that general nature? Probably from the attack on his brother that he had mentioned. She assumed this, anyways. "I'd rather not hand my head over to a Duke, no offense," she stated in a flat but somewhat... humorous tone? Yes there was a bit of such in the way she spoke, and one could have almost expected her to laugh though she didn't.
"You seem rattled," was the next observation made. There was plenty of explanation as to why that was especially considering Nero had already heard that his younger younger brother, the Duke in question, had been put into the hospital. However, she spoke none of this in her statement. "I could make you some tea if you wish." Just a suggestion, really. Tea was calming.... though it had had somewhat of a negative notion when they had met previously. [/scrolly] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] Despite finding it depressing, Lance couldn’t help but smirk at Nero’s response. “No, I assumed you wouldn’t.” He replied, looking back at the man for a moment before turning his head and pretending to look at something else. He had nothing more to say not because he had nothing to talk about but because he had too much on his mind. When he had too much on his mind he spoke too much. He knew that about himself and yet…
There was a small sting in the pit of his stomach when Nero claimed he seemed rattled. Yet Lance did not reply to that and instead continued pretending to look at something. It wasn’t until Nero offered to make him some tea that he finally turned his attention back to him. The offer actually brought an amused yet slightly grateful look upon Lance’s face. It flattered him enough he had even raised his hand to rub the back of his neck as he let out a small laugh. “You would make me some tea out here in the middle of the city?” He asked, chuckling a bit more before closing his eyes and sucking in a deep breath. Eyes opening again and smiling returning, Lance nodded. “A cup of tea would help me relax some.” After all, his nerves were shot.

As he agreed, she nodded her head after a moment. "I don't have the tea with me but," after a moment, she made an indication with her hand for him to follow as she turned and started to walk away from the Clock Tower Ruins and the nostalgia that was slowly retreating into the back of her mind. It was probably for the best in her own right least it overwhelm her enough to leave any sort of sickness or the like. It was never good to grieve too long about anything as Nero saw it. It was too much a complete sigh of defeat and of weakness in turn, and she couldn't bring herself to do it. "My apartment isn't too far away, and I have everything I need there, anyways." she stated as she continued to walk and expecting him to follow.
Though the thought that it was far from the smartest thing to actually show Lance where her home was considering that could add a good deal of power that he had over her as it was. However, it wasn't like one could do much to a small apartment that couldn't be easily replaced in some other town despite how much she did in fact like her house. It was far from like showing him Tree-Top Town or her gang's hideout or something of that nature, at least. Raiden hadn't even been home in what felt like forever, and thus, she wasn't even endangering her partner. [/scrolly] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] A look of confusion settled on Lance’s expression as Nero claimed he did not have any tea with him. The first though to of reason that came to his mind was that Nero would simply find tea leaves somewhere to make it. Yet what hadn’t come to his mind, which would have been an obvious guess if Nero was a normal, average Joe, was his home. That look of confusion quickly turned to shock at Nero’s statement and for a moment he was frozen in place. He wasn’t sure if he really should be following him, or if he had simply heard wrong. After a moment his feet decided to follow though his mind hadn’t quite caught up to him yet. It caused a silence for a moment as he walked. A silence that was soon broken. “I wont be able to stay for too long.” He announced, avoiding the topic of how this could possibly be awkward to him: entering his employees house. “Perhaps one cup. It is of up most importance that I return to the hospital before my brother awakens. I require myself to be there for him.” Nero probably already knew this but Lance felt the need to announce it anyway. Besides, it was better than the topic he was avoiding. He had no intentions of turning on his assassin any time soon and thus wanted to avoid any chances of Nero worrying about showing him his home. Though if Nero offered it, the man must have felt rather secure and confident in himself that it wouldn’t be an issue anyway.... That or Nero actually trusted him… heh, that was a laugh. Nero knew the real him so why would he ever trust him? [/scrolly] [bg=black] |
