Inside something was exhilarated and ready to break into fast speech: to talk about those that still worked under him and the like. However, he held these things back as Eli spoke. A Torterra? That was quite an impressive pokemon, but on second thought, a leader -or rather a second to the true leader but a leader none the less- needed to have some back up, especially if he had been alone before -Salem assumed with the words that he had been picked first that well, yes... Wherein Salem had guns, he assumed the boy had pokemon. Two different ways of going about things, but why not?
"I wouldn't mind getting something to eat," he hummed after a moment. When had been the last time he had eaten? Less than a few hours ago he had had a snack... but he certainly wouldn't mind eating again. Eyes raised themselves and regarded the area for a moment before catching sight of some sort of diner/restaurant. They would probably get take-out or something, but that was usually a bit messier to eat especially if they were moving on a Torterra.... After a moment, he caught sight of a stand with various stick'd and sandwiched meats and the like. "How about there?" he asked making a motion over to the stand.

Eli looked with Salem's motion and took in the little stand. Huh. Well that looked interesting, and he was sure any food here would be extra healthy judging by the rest of the town, especially from a little privately-owned place. ...Or maybe a bigger business would have had better odds since.. Eh whatever; it looked tasty enough, and he wasn't really all that hungry. He was mostly just being polite as discussing things over a meal, especially a free one, was always nicer than just discussions dry.
There was one person at the stand when they got there, allowing a little time to look over the options. Once that customer had been taken care of, Eli moved up, ordering something light (ooh, and they had lemonade<3) before prompting Salem to state his order, then paying for both.
With a bag containing his food over his arm to free up a hand, he put a little distance between them and the stand, then retrieved Gaia's PokeBall from his pocket and released her. Immediately, the Torterra lowered her head to the ground, allowing Eli to climb up her like a ramp. The boy dropped down once on her back, leaning against the small 'mountains' in an easy manner that said he probably did this a lot. "C'mon~" he chimed to Salem. "She doesn't bite." He chuckled slightly, even as his other Pokemon bounced up the big turtle and took a comfortable seat.

It felt weird to allow someone else to pay for him, but seeing as he was low on cash at the moment and given Eli had offered, more or less, Salem didn't argue it.
As the Torterra was released, Salem's eyes grew for a few seconds as Eli climbed on. Eli's words didn't settle the mild tension that had jumped into Salem, yet after a good few seconds, he stepped forwards and climbed on, seating himself across from Eli, more or less, and sitting upright rather than allowing himself to lean against any of the mountain rocks or the tree. "Quite impressive..." the silvery haired man commented a little as he looked around at the various things on the Torterra.. Though the Torterra probably wasn't as nice as a cat at least in petable-ness, it was certainly useful. Once his brief look over was done, Salem looked back towards Eli and offered a smile. "What subject first, hm?" he asked before slowly dropping his sights for a moment and rummaging in his own bag for a moment before looking back up again.

Eli laughed lightly as Gaia was complimented. "Isn't she~?" he chimed about the same time as Salem's question. The Torterra began moving once her passengers were aboard, and Eli thought to instruct "Just wander around for a bit, kay girl?" A low hum came as an answer, making Eli beam.
Still he seemed unconcerned with a prompt answer as he got situated, removing his food from the bag and taking his first bite. ...Mm! Oh, wow, the food here was actually really good. He had to wonder if they'd lucked into a good stand or if it was part of the city in general. They were supposed to have tons of organic food, right? Was all organic stuff so tasty? He might have to do more research.
Once he'd swallowed that bit, his attention at last returned to his guest. "So what kind of Pokemon do you have~?" .... Whether this was just him being spacey and continuing from the compliment or that was actually meant as the first order of business, only Eli knew.

However, after a moment, his eyes dropped, and he seemed to be focusing on something on Gaia. He knew a lot of people who brought up pokemon as a subject of discussion if only because a relationship with pokemon was something the bulk of humanity had in common. He honestly couldn't think of a time when he had met someone who didn't own or train pokemon at least part time, but the problem with this question was it seemed to be getting off topic. There were more important things to address weren't there? Well then he'd answer promptly and direct the conversation elsewhere. "Cats," he replied smiling lightly after this stream of consciousness had finished. "And rabbits....and everything else..." he said waving the word 'everything' out of the air as though he didn't considering the number of pokemon he had caught up north his own. Indeed, he actually planned to sell those at some point though he had yet due to being so busy. He might keep the Swana if only because the coloring was unique.

Eli blinked for a moment, then laughed slightly; he sounded almost nervous, though the intent was more a 'really?' or 'silly.' "Well are we talking Skitty and Buneary or Luxray and Nidoking? What kind of power are you commanding on your own, without your men?" So it appeared he actually was thinking business. "I have to make sure my.. generals, I guess.." He chuckled a bit at that. "I have to make sure they're strong enough to defend themselves if an underling questions their command, ya know? So I need to know if we're gonna need to get you more Pokemon or how you're doing already." .3

As Eli explained his reasoning, Salem mentally sighed. That was not what he wanted to use pokemon for, and that was one of the sole reasons he used guns. They were much less messy in a fight or squabble. Aim, fire. Just next to the head tended to break some people's prides and make them fall back down into their ranks again. Pokemon were pets to him, and friends for Sabrina.
But... Sigh, then again, pokemon were quite the intimidation factor, as he had heard. It just... seemed... just not his style of things, really. A frown played on his features, and he brought a finger to his lips for a moment as though thinking of something. "A Persian, a Buneary, a Shinx......" he started and stopped for a moment considering whether he even wanted to add the other pokemon. Finally deciding to, he shrugged his shoulders a little. "A Mienfoo, Swanna, Milotic, and Kingdra... a Growlithe and two Panpour..." he exhaled the last set dryly. They all had been caught on a whim, and considering them as part of his 'team' was...well... Ah, whatever....

....Eli gave a weak, slightly pained grin as he realized that... was all.. "Oh. ...Oh, wow. ..Heh. Yeah we... we're gonna need to fix that." Turning, he pat Gaia's mini-mountains. "A good Pokemon is the best tool available to us. They can use more force with less effort, and have way more control, than any weapon. And try attacking anyone protected by something like a Steelix with non-living weapons~"
Though he smiled as he said the words, he frowned afterward. "..That came out wrong... Not.. that they.." He took a moment to gather his thoughts, turning to lean back/face Salem again, and moving a hand over to pet the Leafeon lying next to him. "I know they're a lot more than weapons; don't start thinking I'm that kind of leader... Just.." He cracked a grin again. "I'd rather have my Rhyperior than any conventional armor, ya know?" ....He probably didn't know, as the only Pokemon in that lineup that really stood out to Eli were the Milotic and Kingdra, who were both kind of limited in their usability given their.. He mentally snorted. Lack of legs hurr...
"Though we could get you a Fire Stone for that Growlithe and up your total power by a good bit right there. Maybe a Water Stone or two if you like your Panpour. I have one of each Simi myself, but I don't use them too much." He shrugged lightly.

As Eli explained it had come out wrong, Salem sweat dropped and ended up sighing. Something not quite a blank expression set itself on his features, but Salem waited as Eli kept speaking.
'x3 Nyaaaaaaaah... but didn't Arcanine eat more than Growlithe? Salem really shouldn't have been worrying about something like that, but he was usually pretty low on cash....which still wasn't really a proper excuse for someone in Eli's position in his mind, thus he didn't voice it out loud. And... he liked Panpour's form more than Simi... though he could evolve one and keep the other the same....but with those two being the way they were, he'd assume they'd throw an absolute fit at not looking the same... Sigh....
Inhaling deeply, Salem slowly shrugged his shoulders, bending his elbows and raising his palms up. "True," he replied managing something akin to a smile though not quite up to par. Whatever he was going to say after that seemed to be dropped rather quickly, and in the end, that was all Salem replied with.

Eli gave a fairly unreadable look in response to Salem's silence and minimal response. The corners of his mouth were still turned up slightly, but not as much as usual, and overall he seemed slightly upset (though in what way was impossible to say: annoyed, disturbed, concerned, who knew?) and largely blank.
Well, moving on. "Any type you favor..? Whether that's 'type' like attacks or just... sorts of descriptions?" A trainer was most likely to best-utilize Pokemon he liked, after all. This would help Eli figure out what he needed to try to find for Salem~

He honestly didn't prefer any type over any other, though Normal type pokemon sported quite a range of attack powers. He did have quite a few water pokemon, but it didn't necessarily mean he favored the type as he himself noted. "I like water types a bit, but I don't actually have a favorite in particular," he admitted with a light chuckle and a nod of his head.
