The world seems not the same Though I know nothing has changed It's all my state of mind I can't leave it all behind I have to stand up to be strongerJen smirked a bit, humming softly to herself. Why hadn't she thought of it before? Well...Before, she wasn't drunk! And always used to get such amazing ideas when she had just one drink in her system...So this must have driven her mind into overdrive she figured. In her mind, Burk was trying to get her to stop, but to no avail. He would no force his mistress to his will, even if it was for her own good. "Not taking over, per say. Just...Stepping up, I guess? I mean, I've never had a backbone before. Never had the spine to stand up and just DO something. What right have I to complain about the current state of the world if I'm not going to DO anything about it?" She chuckled, like as if this thought had JUST hit it.
What would she do...? "If I manage to secure myself as Dutchess? You mean, if the shock alone doesn't kill me?" She shook her head, blinking a few times, her voice going a little softer. "Sad to say...I don't know. I'm not Nolan. I won't let power go to my head. I'm a Countess, yet I can say I was far more comfortable hanging out with the servants than I was at any ball I was forced to go to." Her blew her bangs out of her face now, a wry smile on her lips. Slowly, her drunkenness was giving way to a more buzzed state, making it easier for her to walk and think.
"Maybe I could bring honor back to the West. I love this land, and I want it to flourish again, like it was when I was young. Repair Fionn Zoo, bring it back to life. Put Convict Island back in order, put criminals back in jail. Both would create jobs for many of the unemployed. Small things like that can have a huge impact on how the West would be seen. I find it sad that such things have fallen so far while places like Escapade and Paradise Island have taken the lime light because they are flashy and are little more than pure pleasure." Jen bit her lip, brow furrowing. "I sound like my father..."
I know I should realize Time is precious It is worthwhile Despite how I feel inside Have to trust it'll be alright Have to stand up to be stronger

He simply took in the words and thought them over. He needed to do more. A bit of morbid humor.... Information... It reminded him a bit of his younger days....However, as Jennifer began to explain what she would want to do, he couldn't help but half smile. They were dreams, goals, something at the very least. He hadn't been to the zoo since it had fallen, but he had heard that Convict island had ended up releases hundred of criminals that had been detained there.
"I see...." he answered back. "....Have you been trained in the noble work?" he asked. His own policy had ended up failing him. He'd wanted his oldest to take over... taught him everything, and yet the young man now leading the East had had no training what so ever but was somehow holding it together. Honestly, Lance would never have thought it possible. But there it was.... However, he still wanted to know if... there was even any sort of hope in this. [/scrolly] |

She swallowed hard, now realizing why her parents had been working so hard to train her in the ways of being a noble. "Yes. They started slow, when I was sixteen. In the past two years, though, they'd picked up the pace and really tried to get me focused on such things. My teaching isn't complete, but I've realized it's mostly good judgement and common sense. Having the people to back you up, and the money to push around, doesn't hurt either." She bit her lip, blinking a few times. Would she be able to do it? She didn't know. She didn't know if she had the people to back her, and her funds weren't unlimited, even if her family had out of country stock...Jen paused, looking at a very nearby building. "That's my stop..." It wasn't a motel in the best condition, and it in fact looked a bit shady...

This was true. A considerable portion of the work was people relations, and because of this, one had to be able to have common sense and good judgement. At the notion of a stop, Lance looked up towards the building and raised an eyebrow. If anything, that didn't look fitting. If one put his finger on it, it looked like it would fall apart. Looking back at Jennifer, Lance shook his head after a moment. "It's inappropriate and very dangerous to put yourself in such a place," he stated having stopped walking.

"I chose it for that reason." Okay, yeah, she was pretty far gone mentally BEFORE the drinking, if that was the case. "If something happens, I have my Pokemon. They are my family now, I guess." She gave a small smirk, attempting to head for her motel room. The light above her door flickered a few times. A soft growl was heard from within it, which could have only been one of her Pokemon. Or more than one. She smiled a bit at the growl, like it was a comfort. "See? Heard that? I'm safe here...Besides, I've been forced to realize I'm no better than anyone else. Everyone has lost someone, something precious. Princes and paupers alike, we all suffer. Why should I stay in luxury when other suffer?" She bowed her head. "If my insanity proves fruitful, I'll open Riptide Castle's gates to all. It won't just be my home and office, it will be a sanctuary for those who hurt, who have no place else to go...I'm tired of seeing the young so scared and cold and hopeless when I get to be safe and warm and comfortable."

Despite this, he still found it wrong of her to do such to herself. There was a standard that had to be kept... even if one wished to help people. Shaking his head, he sighed. "It is not so much luxury if you do work..." he muttered more to himself than to Jennifer.
That was how his castle had been, really. It was an office, a place to do work, a place to affirm deals and the like...However, it was also prestigious and order to him... It was honor in knowing that you worked and were of the class that affirmed society as it was..... It was improper for nobles to do such.... lower class things, of sorts... even if everyone was human, there was a standard and order that needed to be affirmed.....All this remained in Lance's mind.
"....Fine," he sighed quietly after a moment. She was not one of his children, and he and no actual authority in the East. Despite how much he disliked the situation there was not much that could truly be done with it. "But please take care of yourself."

The world seems not the same Though I know nothing has changed It's all my state of mind I can't leave it all behind I have to stand up to be strongerJen flashed a smile...One of her old ones that she used when trying to reassure people. "Don't worry, I'm to much of a chicken to really not be careful." She didn't have a death wish...Or did she? She didn't really know, honestly. Her head ached, her body ached, but what hurt most was her heart. And the heart was a fickle, fragile thing, making the person it belonged to do some of the most foolish things. And when it breaks, it becomes the most unpredictable thing...
Jen walked to her door, placing a hand on it as she dug in her pocket for the key. The sounds of growling got louder..."Benji, Jake, Jackson...Shush, you'll wake the neighbors..." One bark rang out, and the growling grew quiet. She opened the door, staggering in. The three Houndour sniffed at her, Benji bouncing, Jackson sneezing at the scent of alcohol, and Jake nosing her gently. "Easy boys, there's my good boys...Back up some..." She turned, looking to Lance. "I know it looks bad, but it would be rude if I didn't ask if you'd like to come in a sit. I cleaned up the place a bit before I left..." Meaning, she'd made sure the place smelled decent and she's gotten rid of all but her own trash and debris. She stayed by the door, waiting for his response before she went in. The three Houndour's eyes glowed with the dim light that was let into the dark room, making them look far scarier than they were...Well, at least two of them. Jackson was still pretty violent...

There was something about a young woman's courage that he had to admire, deep down. However, it also made him miss his girls, sigh. As they finally came to the door, Lance stopped walking and stared towards the door and in the direction of the growling in turn. A dog? Or possibly a dog-like pokemon. As the names were stated, he took them in, and as the door was opened, he found himself face to face with the Houndour. A half smile set itself onto Lance's face. It reminded him of his Poochyena, and though the Poochy-line was more Hyena than not, they were still dog-like in their general reactions.
At the invitation, Lance hesitated and ended up standing there for a few seconds. He wasn't one to enter such a place, but at the same time, an invitation had already been given. His eyes ended up dropping towards the Houndour. "Maybe for a bit..." he answered back slowly before bending downwards towards the dogs. "Easy boys...." he stated before reaching a hand out. He knew dog-like pokemon well, even with his mind slightly cold from the general feel of alcohol.
