"Hm? What a beautiful tower.."

The Buneary's projected thoughts were to her trainer, Rex, who stood right beside her also looking up at the old clock. He smiled and thought back to the lapine.

"Yes, we're going in there to train.."

Alice's eyes lit up. "We're going into the clock tower?!" The trainer nodded and stepped forward to open the door for his Pokemon and held it. Still shining in the eyes, Alice hopped into the doorway and was followed by Rex, who closed the door behind him when he went inside.

Within the clock tower, a large winding staircase led to the top, and what appeared to be large mechanical gears could be seen frozen in place in the middle of the tower that went all the way to the top. It was eerily quiet for a few seconds before the sounds of ruffling feathers could be heard. A Noctowl could be seen sitting frozen on one of the large mechanical gears not far off.

Rex appeared pleased that he had chosen this particular place to train his little Buneary. He placed a hand between the lapine's ears and scratched the top of her head a little.

Alice, on the other hand, was in absolute awe. This place was.. fascinating! All of those gears, placed just so to make the clock work just the way it was supposed to.. It actually took her a moment or two to realize that the silence of the place was un-natural, that the gears should be moving and not holding in place the way they were. She ignored the hand on her head and hopped forward to get a closer look at a cluster of gears, then seemed to pout.

"What's wrong with this clock tower?"

The trainer had no answer for his dear little Alice, and thus he looked around at the non-functional inner workings of the giant clock himself. "..Broken, perhaps? Maybe something's stuck between some gears?" Rex seemed startled by the sound of his voice out loud; it echoed a little and felt louder than it should be. He was used to speaking in his head, that was all.. right?

"..Oh! You there, Noctowl.. why is this clock not functional?" Speaking with his mind felt much more natural to Rex, and he visibly relaxed while he sent the thought to the owl. He hoped that the wise bird could answer his question, but he wouldn't be surprised if Noctowl didn't know himself..

The Noctowl opened one eye and stared at those that had entered the clock tower. <This tower stopped working the day that the kingdom fell> he sighed in a rather scratchy old voice. <And no one has been able to fix it or get it to start working again since then> He sighed once more before shaking his head. <Back when it was working, it had such a lovely sound too....>

[Rarity]

Rex frowned. "I see.. that's unfortunate." He wondered if perhaps it was only a coincidence that the tower had stopped on that particular day, or if maybe the clock's inner workings were somehow connected to the rest of the region..

"But.. I don't understand how something like that could affect a clock..?" Alice looked genuinely puzzled by this thought. She also looked sad; she had probably looked forward to seeing the clock working, not just sitting there and broken.

The Noctowl sighed again and nodded before looking about the gear workings of the tower with a careful eye as if he had done this many times before. <Someday it may start working again if the humans find a way to fix it....> He shrugged his shoulders again before opening his wings and starting to fly up towards the top of the tower.

[Rarity]

"W-wait..! Have you seen any place that the gears might be stuck or..?" It was too late; the Noctowl was gone. Rex sighed and looked around for himself; as far as he could see, the gears were in perfect shape and there was nothing sticking or gumming up the machinery, but they just weren't moving. For a moment, in the silence and the broken clock, Rex felt as if time itself had stopped moving.

Alice looked so sad now that she thought about how the clock was just.. dead. She wondered if there was anything she could possibly do to help it work again, or if perhaps the humans could do something.. She also didn't see anything that might be stopping the gears from moving, so she decided to go a little further up the steps to keep examining the gears. Alice seemed to have completely forgotten why they were in the tower in the first place as her trainer followed her up the old stairs.

The stairs creaked as Rex ascended them, yet then there was a creak that seemed to come from father up. Sitting not too far up on the stairs, a Pichu seemed to be sitting on a step swinging his legs and moving his head to some unknown beat. Wait... this Pichu... appeared to be a tad off in color... Well now.. how strange.

[Rarity]

"..Rex..? I think that Pokemon is different than normal.."

The trainer wondered what Pokemon Alice was referring to until he looked up to see a Pichu of a darker color with a shimmer about it. The Buneary was right; that Pichu was different. Special.

"..You there.. Pichu.. What do you know about this clock being broken? Rex would love to catch this Pokemon; not because it was rare but because it was such a pretty color. However, his approach would be to befriend and ask to capture it, not to suddenly attack and scare it away.

The Pichu seemed to suddenly blink and snap back into reality before turning his head to one side at the question. <The clock? Um... nothing really.... I've never known it to be not broken....> he answered back in a light almost squeaky voice.

[Rarity]

Alice, having been with Rex for quite a long time, recognized that glint of longing in his eyes as he looked at the Pichu. He wanted to catch it, she knew. With a knowing blink, she decided to help him with this.

"Oh, we were just trying to see if we could fix it.. But would you like to battle me?" The Buneary tried to sound cute and playful as she spoke to the Pichu, batting her eyes and smiling.

Rex quickly realized that Alice was trying to help him and stood quietly, keeping his thoughts to himself while he awaited the Pichu's reply.

[Jay]

The Pichu turned his head to one side and continued swinging his legs. <Nah not really> he answered back. <Hey want to play a game instead?> he offered lightly.

[Rarity]

"Mm? A game? What kind of game?" Alice was genuinely interested in this; she was still a young Pokemon, after all, and did quite enjoy playing.

[Jay]

The Pichu smiled and forced himself off the step before coming close to Alice and tagging her. <You're it> he answered back before suddenly starting rather quickly up the stairs. <Just try and catch me! Hahahhaah!>

[Rarity]

Alice blinked in surprise and watched the Pichu run away for a moment, then realized what the game was and giggled aloud before pursuing the electric-type. She loved tag!

Rex chuckled at the two Pokemon; he hoped that they might become friends so that the Pichu would come along, but he was also glad that Alice was having so much fun.

Dashing up the stairs, the Shiny Pichu was rather agile and seemed to take almost two stairs at a time on some parts. At the top of the stairs, he stopped and looked back for a moment before quickly starting to run again towards the major parts of the clock.

^{Alice giggled as she continued to run after the Pichu. Being a Buneary with those powerful back legs, she was able to hop three steps at a time, and she pursued the Electric-type swiftly. Rex was amused by the chase, but he remained quietly watching from the base of the stairs.}

The Pichu caught sight of the speed of the bunny pokemon and then seemed to pick up speed as he ran now through the top floor of the clock tower. Every few seconds, he would look back and see how far the Bunaery was behind him and make changes in speed accordingly. However, on one strive to look backwards, the Pichu was unable to look forwards in time to see that hew as headed for a wall. In half a second, he hit it and fell back blinking rather dumbfounded by the entire motion.

<sup>The Buneary, seeing her opportunity, leaped up the last couple of steps and took another leap to land on the Pichu.

"I got you!" she cried with a smile, giggling like a small child. She had won!

Rex smiled himself, making his way up the stairs one step at a time to get to his Pokemon and that shiny Pichu. He wondered if the game would continue or if that was it..</sup>

The Pichu let out a laugh and then clung to the Buneary. "No! I got you now~!" he laughed. However, a sound caught the Pichu's ears. Looking over, the shiny caught sight of yet another Pichu in normal coloring bounding at him before tackling both the Buneary and the shiny Pichu. "Hey guys~!" he said excitedly.
