Fifty years ago, a small village named Quietus was swallowed by fire. People assumed the citizens of Quietus had died, when in reality a large portion of the population fled underground and were safe from the lava flow. They were frightened, ragged, and most of all - angry.
The survivors lived for days without food, hoping that they would be rescued. In time they realized that no help was coming, and so the stronger members of the community dug a tunnel out with help from pokemon. The scouts reported the destruction of their once-peaceful home. They also said that the king and his court had not sent a rescue team out to Quietus.
Their anger transformed into hatred for those above ground that had failed to save them or their village. The natural disaster brought the villagers closer together, bonded them with pokemon, and isolated them from the rest of Era. They formed new beliefs, all stemming from their hatred for the "outsiders". Their loyalty to their home kept them living underground among the heat and gases. Today, another generation has been raised within the cult-like society and formed a militia called "The Legion" with which to combat The Outsiders. Any person that wanders deep into the fire pits is a target for The Legion. Without hesitation they challenge outsiders, and the only way to escape is to fight them off.
