Originally owned by a sheep farmer, Damascus Island never was as much of a bustling place as the state they were technically a part of. The land was bought up by the Catholic Church to build a monastery for a newly formed order of monks devoted to St. Jude Thaddeus. Construction went on for some time, and for most of it's history, St. Jude Thaddeus' campus was known as a monastery. However, hard times fell on the monastery, and when the monks had discovered the Catholic Church's tolerance of the Nazi Party and the Holocaust, they decided as a group to give up their lives as monks and turn the monastery into a school. And so, after World War II, the monastery was converted into a boarding school. Sometime in the 1970s, renovations began, stripping most of the religious influence from the school as it became largely secularized. Most of the monks left the school long before the new renovations, the last one having passed away ten years ago. He was able to see the first orchestra performance in the new auditorium (formerly the chapel) before he passed away. Nowadays, it's an expensive private school accepting the best and brightest. Scholarships are available, and there are several special programs for the occasional problem child. There are a wide range of students, of many different cultures and nationalities.
