Mary, Gary, or safe?

So, I just made up this game. Here's how it works.

1. First person names a character from ANYthing! TV, video games, movies, VC, or even real life if you're daring.

2. Second person says whether they are a gary/mary sue, or if they're safe and why. They then name a character for someone to analyze.

So, I'll start with a character.

NARUTO!

Now YOu decide whether he's a gary sue or safe, then name a character yourself.

"Hi, I'm Bella. I always look confused while everything happens around me." I don't understand how the most ineffectual character can be the most integral character to the plot. Everything is some how her fault, though she'se just SO innocent and confused.


Okay, Voldemort.

As much as I actually like Voldemort, I think he's a Gary. Basically his whole story is 'wah, I grew up in an orphanage because I killed my mother by being born and spent the rest of my life trying to get back at the stupid muggles that somehow ruined my childhood (mostly just by existing)'. At least that's how see it. >.>

I'm going to say borderline Mary/Gary just because, while the character sounds interesting, I can't give any character whose primary trope type IS his or her name a full pass. 'x3; Really, the part he plays is the Yamato Nadeshiko and he couldn't come up with a better fake name than Nadeshiko?
