Lot 'O Rocks (Mod/Open)

[Devin]

Although it wasn't particularly hot yet, the sun still beat down on Devin's back and caused him to sweat as he flew over Drifter's Gorge on the back of his Salamence. He was largely ignoring the sunlight however as he stared in awe at all of the massive rock formations, and the rocky walls. It almost looked like something straight out of a movie.

Salamence wasn't flying to high at the moment, and Devin motioned for it to descend slightly so that he might see if any Pokemon, or possibly any humans were around this area at the moment. One would think that in this kind of environment, life would be scarce, but that any life that did exist he would likely be highly adaptive, and strong to survive these conditions. Salamence slowly descended towards the ground as Devin kept an eye out for anything.

[Jay]

Not far off, on the actual wall of the gorge, a pink haired boy was carefully trying to make it down. His form was stiff as he held tightly onto the rocks for security, and somewhere in the back of his mind, Jayme Joy wondered what in the world had possessed him to come into such a scary place. Relax...c-c-come on... just a little bit more.... Jayme's eyes shifted down towards the ground and rocks below... Ok... a lot more to go... After a few seconds, he sucked in some air and slowly started to move down again. He could do this... he could do this.... yet just then, he slipped, and his entire form seemed to suddenly detach from the wall. The young boy went plummeting towards the ground. "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH," was the sharp scale scream that escaped the pink haired boy's throat as the waves of fear rolled over him and outdid any sort of idea as to how to save himself. >< Oh man... this was going to hurt.........

[Devin]

Devin and Salamence were flying along when suddenly, a screaming sound pierced the air around them. Devin looked in the direction that he heard the sound coming from, and his eyes went wide with horror as he saw someone falling down right next to one of the tall rock walls. The ground was a long way down, and to Devin it seemed certain that a fall from such a distance would certainly be fatal.

He wasn't sure if Salamence could fly fast enough to reach this man in time, but what choice did he have? He had to try and hope for the best. Devin said to Salamence in a very urgent tone, "Salamence fly down quickly and catch him!" Almost immediately, Salamence began to flap its wings ferociously, and bolted down towards the man as fast as it could. When the Dragon-type was just above the man, it wrapped its two front limbs around him, and it immediately flapped its wings ferociously to slow itself down. Salamence's descent slowed to a gentle glide, and only a few seconds later, Salamence touched down on the ground, and released its grip on the man.

Devin hoped off of Salamence's back and looked at the pink haired boy. He said to the boy, "Are you injured? Do you need any sort of medical attention?"

[Jay]

Jayme was shivering as his mind tried to grasp what had just happened. He'd fallen but then... then.... then what..? His eyes slowly looked upwards, and he found himself staring at a Salamence. The pink haired boy gulped a moment before noticing that there was a trainer with the dragon type. Upon finally registering a question, Jayme found himself stammering a little. "I... I... I...." he started before falling silent for a few seconds before slowly calming down and simply falling silent for a few seconds. "I... I think I'm ok..." he said rather qiuietly as his eyes looked downwards at his form all in one piece.

[Devin]

Devin was somewhat frustrated at himself for not realizing something that should've been obvious. A fall from such a high height would certainly traumatize anyone, unless they were experienced with such acts, probably wouldn't be able to completely function within the first few seconds after the ordeal was over, and be somewhat unresponsive. Devin should've waited a few more seconds and made sure that the boy had calmed down before he asked any questions.

He also decided it would be best not to ask any more complicated questions for abotu another minute, and decided to use something else to help to boy to relax. He noticed that the boy was somewhat apprehensive upon seeing Salamence, which was understandable. Devin reached into his backpack and took out two items. The first was a Pokeball, which Devin held up towards Salamence, and within a few seconds, Salamence was sucked back inside the Pokeball in a stream of red light.

Devin then put the Pokeball away and held up the other thing that he had taken out of his backpack, which was a plastic water bottle. He held the bottle out towards the pink haired boy and asked, "Do you need some water? Don't worry this bottle hasn't been opened yet." The question that he had asked was not complex, and didn't even require words to answer. Devin had originally planned to drink that water later, but figured that he could have Blastoise fill the bottle back up again if need be.

[Jay]

The pink haired boy's eyes watched as the dragon disappeared into a pokeball, and he slowly found himself settling even more. Alright... alright... he could deal with this.... After a few seconds, he drew in another bit of air and realized that the man was holding out some water. Suddenly realizing how dry his throat was, Jayme took the water gratefully and then slowly opened it. After a moment, he took a quick sip only to find that he was still shaking now. It was... as though he really couldn't sit fully still anymore. After a moment, Jayme realized that he had to at least say thank you to this man. "T-t-thank you," he said managing to offer a quiet and at least partially relieved look to the man. After a moment, he smiled even more. "Thanks," he reiterated a little more confidently now. "For saving me... and the water and...." Jayme stopped himself before he had started to go off on a full tangent of sorts.

[Devin]

It appeared that it would take a bit longer than Devin suspected for the boy to completely regain his composure. The good thing was that it appeared that anything resembling 'acute stress reaction' with regard to the boy was non-existent. He would just need a little while to calm down, just like anyone else would in this type of situation. Devin decided that it still wasn't the right time to ask any questions, and decided to wait a little while longer, and decided to tell the boy something else, "You probably shouldn't try to move around too much for a few minutes."

[Jay]

Jayme looked at Devin and nodded a little before remaining still. After the entire shock wore off fully, Jayme began to realize that he should at least introduce himself and maybe even thank this person again. "My name is Jayme by the way," he said rather quietly before offering the man a smile. "I... don't think I'll try climbing down anymore..." After a moment, he smiled a little and shook his head a bit. Ya... he still wasn't sure why he had decided to try and climb that....

[Devin]

So that was why this person had been falling down along the gorge wall. he had been climbing down the walls of the gorge all by himself. Devin felt that it was somewhat foolish to climb the wall of a massive gorge without a safety harness or parachute, and decided to let Jayme know about this albeit in a polite way, "You don't need to stop altogether, you just need to take some safety precautions like maybe wearing a parachute next time." Devin then decided that he should introduce himself too, since Jayme had done so, "Nice to meet you Jayme. I'm Devin."

[Jay]

The pink haired boy was indeed feeling extremely foolish at the moment but managed to nod back and even managed a smile. "O-ok," he answered back before slowly looking up the gorge. "I just... kind of wanted to see what was down here..." he said after a moment now trying to more or less confirm to himself that that was what he had been doing. It made sense right? Ya... After another second, he heard Devin's name and then smiled. "Nice to meet you," he answered back. Jayme was about to ask why Devin was out there but then decided not to say anything. He had to be simply grateful over anything else.

[Devin]

It wasn't much of a surprise to Devin when he heard Jayme tell him why he was here. The sheer scale and magnitude of the gorge would likely interest most people and possibly entice them to make a visit. Devin's reason for coming here was somewhat similar, but he did have another reason for making the trip all the way out here, though he didn't feel the need to say what it was for the moment. Devin was getting the impression that Jayme was a bit apprehensive about talking with him, Devin wondered if it was because he had just saved him. Devin decided to say something about this stuttering somewhat as he did so, "You don't need to be nervous around me just because I saved you, it's...kinda my job, since I'm a Pokemon Ranger."

[Jay]

Jayme stopped a moment and blinked slowly. A pokemon ranger? In Era? Jayme had only read about them if briefly far away stories... However, quite a bit of admiration of sorts glinted in the pink haired boy's eye after that. "That's cool!" he said rather quickly then and there with a new grin on his face of sorts. All the nervousness and confusion of sorts had worn away by one simple fact then and there. This man was a ranger! They were the good guys in everything! Ya!

[Devin]

Devin had never really thought much of what other peoples opinions were of his profession, whether they admired, or hated it. Devin had chosen the Ranger profession simply because he enjoyed it, and had fun doing it. It wasn't because of some egotistical desired to be looked upon as a knight in shining armor. Of course Devin wasn't applying this knowledge to Jayme, they just popped into his head suddenly, and the thoughts just came to him. Changing subjects he decided to try and provide an answer to the reason why Jayme had come down here, "You said you wanted to know what was down here, right? I'm not exactly sure where they are, but I heard that a lot of unique Pokemon live down here."

[Jay]

At the slight shift in the conversation, Jayme blinked a little yet was willing to shift anyways. After a moment, he slowly allowed his eyes to look around where he was now and seemed to think for a moment before looking back at Devin. "Like what kids?" he finally asked feeling a tad naive for not even bothering to look up what types of pokemon were in such an area beforehand. Again, he wondered why he had come down here so spontaneously and was somewhere in the back of his mind kicking himself for it. Then again, it was still kind of cool to have come down anyways. Maybe he could tell his sister about it later! Maybe about Devin too ^_^ Ya! Heh... After a few seconds, the pink haired boy seemed to register that there were at least some possible types here. "Uhm... ground and rock types, right?" he asked after a few seconds.

[Devin]

Given that this area largely consisted of rocks and barren soil, it was certainly reasonable to think that Rock and Ground-type Pokemon generally made their habitats here, although it was certainly possible that other types made their home here too. Even so, it certainly wasn't any place that Devin would want to live, especially given the temperature, but that was beside the point, he said to Jayme, "That would be my first guess, but you never know for sure until you see them." Devin couldn't think of anything else to say for a few more moments until another thought popped into his head. He said to Jayme, "Hey Jayme, what do you do for a living?"

[Jay]

Eh? Well, that had been a... slightly random question, yet Jayme took it honestly and seemed to think about it. He was fourteen... and in training to be a poke-nurse one day (though only during certain seasons now a days since he had wanted to travel and learn too) and there was the manner of the fact that he did catch pokemon... so he could consider himself a pokemon trainer kind of. "I'm still a kid right now, kinda, hah" he smiled after a moment. "But I want to be a pokemon Nurse when I get older." At this, he grinned a bit. He would make it happen someday! Yep yep yep!

[Devin]

Devin probably should have chosen a different form of wording for what he had just said. Doing something for a living implied that you were an adult, and were working for a certain organization. Given that Jayme still appeared to be a young teenager it would seem likely that he wasn't to that point in his life. On the other hand, his stated career goal was to become a Pokemon Nurse. That was definitely a goal that Devin had respect for, and he might have even considered going into that type of profession himself had he not chosen to become a Ranger. He was curious about what influenced Jayme's desire to be a Pokemon Nurse and asked him, "That sounds like an awesome career goal! What made you choose to purse that kind of work?"

[Jay]

Jayme broke into a sudden great smile of sorts at hearing Devin;s comment, and all he could do was grin for a moment. "Well my sister and my mom are both Nurse Joys... and since the war... a lot of the pokemon centers have been closing because.... of mean people and things... but... but I want to help the pokemon," the pink haired boy grinned beaming with an optimism that most, if not all, cynics would probably have loved to crush.

[Devin]

Devin had felt that this boy had looked somewhat familiar, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it, most notably the boys pink hair seemed to remind him of someone. When he heard Jayme say that his mother and sister were both Nurse Joy's, a switch clicked in his head. So that was why he seemed so familiar. However, Devin felt that it was best not to actually talk about any of this and thought of something different to say after a few seconds in response to Jayme's dismay about all of the Pokemon Center's closing down throughout the region. He said, "Yeah, that is a problem. Many of the towns that I go to don't have a Pokemon Center open, so I've often had to treat my Pokemon myself when they fall ill. For me, this hasn't been an issue, since Pokemon Ranger's are required to take classes on Pokemon medical treatment, but I'd imagine that some people have no where to turn without a Pokemon Center when their Pokemon need treatment."

[Jay]

The pink haired boy sighed and frowned greatly but nodded his head at Devin's words. Indeed, it was bad for the people and the pokemon in different areas where the centers were forced to close. It.. it was all that war's fault! He...he hated it! If someone would just step up and make things right somehow either by...by taking the crown or making a democracy or something... It'd be so much better. However, after a few seconds, Jayme remembered that he did have a goal of his own, indeed. "When I'm grown, I'm going to open back up the pokemon centers and open my own too," he said as his form seemed to jump a little with this excitement. He'd do that! He would!
