She was hoping that this would be fun. And she got to try out pokemon that weren't hers. Welllll She had Flare so it was good. Taking a deep breath she calmed down a bit. This was good experience for her pokemon. To be able to take orders from another person besides her. She had already spoken to her pokemon so hopefully they would listen to the other trainer. Pulling out a pokeball she looked it over. It was the Sneasel's ball. She really didn't look forward to fighting Haunter. He would probably disobey orders in order to find her sketch book. Good thing she had left her bag at the hotel they were staying in.
Well she needed to get to know the pokemon so she hit the button and released the Sneasel. "Hello Styx I'm Rikka. I figured I should introduce myself if we are going to be battling together today." The Sneasel almost didn't seem to care but was looking over at his Trainer not sure how to protect her while being on a different team. [/scrolly] |

Styx didn't like being away from Trish. Not in the slightest. He didn't blame the girl holding his pokeball; after all, he'd been warned about this little spur-of-the-moment idea of Trish's in advance. He just didn't like being over here, when Trish was over there. His trainer was pretty calm about this, at least outwardly. Trish rarely showed much expression, her icy eyes currently scanning the crowd momentarily in search of a familiar face. Then her opponent spoke, and she looked over, her black lips quirking into a small smirk. "It's okay, Styx," she called to the Sneasel looking at her, "Don't hold back for my sake. Have a little fun with this, tough guy." She knew Styx liked battling, and having fun was what entering this tournament had been about in the first place. Trish thought about her own team for a moment. The Growlithe was the obvious choice, with the type matchup, but part of her was just plain itching to say hello to that Haunter. She'd rather not pit Apocalypse against Styx, so she silently debated for a few moments before deciding to let the ghost out. The Haunter took shape, and Trish found herself narrowly dodging a long tongue as he decided to greet the person holding his pokeball. Not that she didn't appreciate the affection, but she'd rather not have her heavy gothic makeup smeared. She chuckled quietly and patted the ghost on the head to make sure he didn't take her avoidance as unfriendliness. "Nice to meetcha, Haunter." Oh, he was just so adorable; Trish immediately decided that, putting herself at a disadvantage or not, she was happy she'd let him out.

Mason sat in the crowd, dressed in his usual all-black, topped off by his dark shades. Usually, this wasn't his thing; the crowds, the battling just for fun. So needless to say, under any other circumstances, Mason Marxx would not be there.
But this was different. Trish was battling, and he was there for her. It was an odd way to show how much he cared, but Trish would understand. A small smile crossed his face when their eyes briefly met.

Well atleast she had talked to her pokemon. Looking about at the crowd she took a deep breathe and let it out again. This was the largest crowd she had ever battled in. "Haunter you better be good and do not hold back or your not gonna get to look at the new pictures I drew last week." The haunter's face seemed to fall then he decided he would beat Rikka. That would show her not to hold back the sketchbooks.
They could go first now that her opponent had chosen a pokemon. Running through her list in her head she quickly got rid of any normal moves. They wouldn't work on Haunter. "Alright Styx let use Faint attack." The sneasel seemed to hesitate before attempting to use feint attack on Haunter. [/scrolly] |

Trish smirked, feeling good about this match. She felt in her element commanding the ghost pokemon, despite him not being hers, and her opponent had returned the favour of encouraging not to hold back. Not to mention that Mason was watching her.
She thought over her guardian Sneasel's weaknesses, and what she knew about Haunter's abilities, and then nodded to herself as she decided. "Try a Fire Punch," she said, and moments later the Haunter's disembodied fist burst into flame.

The Sneasel's lightning speed scored a devastating hit right off the bat. The 'tough guy' seemed to either not know his own strength or be having fun with this indeed! He proved as much a glass canon as his species was generally known to be, however, as the Haunter's punch hit nearly as hard. Worse, it left the Sneasel with a rather nasty burn. Styx the Sneasel, Male, Inner Focus, Black Glasses: (-211, -118 burn) HP: 613/942 [Burned] ATK: 289 145 (while burned) DEF: 115 SPA: 76 SPD: 155 SPE: 329

"Sorry Styx. Use Hail then Dig." The pokemon quickly used hail before digging into the ground beneath him.
Watching Rikka watched Haunter. He seemed to be taking orders rather well from the girl. That was good. Hopefully, if the Sneasel fainted, the girls other pokemon would work well for her too. Though She was hoping to win this battle. With the burn though it could make things interesting. [/scrolly] |

Trish blinked at Rikka's orders. That...was different. She admitted that she had no idea what the other trainer was planning, but she did know that that Hail needed to be gotten rid of sooner rather than later. "Sunny Day?" she suggested. She probably should have done that before throwing fire around, she realized, but better late than never.
However, Haunter seemed to have his own ideas, and after changing the weather as suggested (sunlight really did seem preferable to getting pelted with ice), he went to split himself into a series of copies with Double Team in true trickster fashion. Trish hardly minded.

It began to hail, but the ice melted before it hit the ground- and more importantly the Pokemon- under the sun to follow. At turn's end, Styx was underground preparing to come up soon, while several shadow clones of Haunter dotted Trish's side. Once he had completed the attack she called out for another Hail. She couldn't let the Sunny day stay. That could prove to be bad with Haunter knowing Fire punch. She knew she would probably go with Blizzard or another Dig. Haunter didn't do well with ground attacks. [/scrolly] |

Trish was silent at this point. Haunter seemed fairly determined to earn the Almighty Sketchbook, and he hardly needed her to give orders right now, since smacking Styx with another Fire Punch when he popped up out of the ground was something of a no-brainer, as was dispersing the hail with another Sunny Day. A creative strategist Trish was not.

Haunter may not have done well with Ground attacks.... when they could hit him. However, under normal circumstances, they couldn't; and, unfortunately for Styx and Rikka, this was a normal circumstance. When Styx popped up, Haunter just Levitated out of the way, leaving the weasel high low and dry. The Fire Punch hit hard and the burn took its toll while the combatants fought over the weather in the most literal sense. At the very least the Hail had kept that exact Fire Punch from being quite as effective, having cancelled out the sun just as the punch had been thrown. All the same, Styx had probably one move left, or two if he was lucky, unless Rikka thought of something fast. [th]SUN TURN: 1 | Styx the Sneasel, M, Inner Focus, Black Glasses: (-202, -118 burn) [Burned] HP: 175/942 ATK: 289 145 (while burned) DEF: 115 SPA: 76 SPD: 155 SPE: 329

Thinking over the moves Sneasel should know she finally got an idea. "Styx! Substitute then rest." That would get rid of the burn and heal him up. And it would only take him out for two turns. Soon as he wok up though she would have to get rid of that Sunny day.
Styx quickly performed the moves. [/scrolly] |

Falling asleep in the middle of a fight went against all of Styx's instincts, but he'd follow orders, Trish knew. She thought about her own response. With the sun shining now (she could only imagine what the audience was going through with the dueling weather; poor Mason...), one Fire Punch should be enough to break that Substitute...Then Trish remembered a trick Haunter knew and smirked.
"Snatch that Substitute," she said calmly, "And use Nightmare."

Interestingly enough, if Trish had left well enough alone, Styx didn't actually have the energy to use Substitute himself. As it was, though, Haunter took the full effect- both the HP loss and the plasma replica (though this resembled an odd hybrid of the two somehow), then induced his nightmare upon the slumbering Sneasel. Ironically enough, the Nightmare did the same amount of damage that would have been done by the Substitute if it had been able to make it. Yeah, Trish wasn't exactly an expert here. In fact, even watching this play out, she didn't realize that she could have left well enough alone. But, hey, the Sneasel/Haunter mash-up substitute was cool. "Use Fire Punch." She didn't exactly need to say it at this point, really, but she did anyway, and off went Haunter with a flaming fist.

The Sleep Talk called for an Avalanche- horribly ineffective due to the weather, but enough to damage the substitute a bit. The Fire Punch landed square and powerful, and combined with more nightmares he was on his last breath, yet Styx prevailed. He should be waking up some time this turn at least? [th]SUN TURN: 3 | Styx the Sneasel, M, Inner Focus, Black Glasses: (-291) [Sleep 2/2, Nightmares!] (-236) HP: 179/942 ATK: 289 DEF: 115 SPA: 76 SPD: 155 SPE: 329

"Fire Punch." Simple. Not very flashy. Predictable. But effective.
