Of course, he really wasn't the most experienced trainer when it came to coordinating, so he may just be easily impressed. ... And of course, he'd have been lying if he said part of it wasn't just the man himself. He hadn't caught the name if it had been announced at any point, but he actually half-debated trying to catch up with him after the contest. Worst that could happen was being turned down, right? At any rate, he needed to concentrate. He knew his idea probably wasn't exactly what the Spring Festival contest was looking for, but Fae was technically a bug, and he wasn't really in it to win it. This was just about having a little fun, and maybe hopefully catching Felis's eye a bit. ...Not that he really cared that much either way of course. Stepping up, he leashed his massive monarch moth with a "Let's show 'em what we've got." The Volcarona let out a great flap of her wings, ember scales dusting off slightly from the sheer force. Truth be told, she found this entire scenario a bit ridiculous, but she did love a chance to show off her pure perfection to this puny little people. "Better make sure they can see ya," he told the bug, prompting her to Fly up high. "Dance fer yer fans," he told her, and Fae began to Quiver Dance, gracefully flitting about in the sky. After a little bit of this, a very faint glow appeared for a moment around her, followed by an equally short one of another color, and then three more, each slightly different than the last. All the while, her movements remained seamless. Once her stats had successfully been boosted, she kept up the motion for effect alone and called up a Silver Wind, dancing through the shimmering mist, ember scales occasionally blowing with it like small sparkles. "Beautiful," Ryan sighed, truly in awe of his own Pokemon. Of course, Fae always impressed him, so this wasn't saying much. "Now kick it up a notch~" In response, the moth began to dance again. This time, however, each flap of her wings brought more and more embers, until a true inferno was raging about her, forming an intricate pattern in her trail through the sky. Rather than the soft wind from before, she now called forth a Hurricane. In turn, the fire upon her wings caught this air to create a massive spinning vortex of fire, which followed her as she continued to flitter back and forth gently in its eye. Ryan smiled easily, but was sure no one would take kindly if that thing went on too long and got out of hand. Thus, he called lightly, "A'ight, majesty, back down t'earth now." The Volcarona divebombed the stage then, bringing the fire with her; this grew shorter but wider the closer she got to the earth, until just when it was about to reach the spectators and her the ground, she pulled up, causing the full thing to dissipate into a brief moment of embers all through the air around the stage, then into nothing. Taking a bow and still grinning a bit, Ryan recalled Fae and headed off-stage. [/scrolly] |

Very very jealous. Not only did all these trainers, even Ryan, have such pretty Pokemon! But all of them, even Ryan, got to go before her! Hmph. Well, that was okay. Because now she and Fluffy were going to be awesome! She stepped out on the stage and released the Mareep only to suddenly realize just how many people were watching. Had she known Ryan had been a bit nervous too and just knew well how to avert it, she may have felt better, but as it was... Wow that was a lot of people. All the same, she was sure Fluffy could do this if she could just manage the commands. And Ryan had helped her figure out something to do, so she was sure it would be okay. "Fluffy, use Magneh Rise!" she told the little sheep, who complied, letting out a charge until she floated in the air like a Munna. "An' now use Co- er, Charge!" Not particularly eloquent, but effective enough. The Mareep began storing electricity, her wool puffing up quite a bit. "And NOW Cotton Spore!" she announced. She just almost got them out of order earlier, but now she was okay. This really wasn't so bad after all~ The Mareep loosed a bulk of charged cotton balls into various directions around it. Thanks to the Magnet Rise and their charge, they didn't go very far, but floated with her. "An' Cotton Guard~" chimed the seven-year-old. The wool around the sheep essentially doubled up now, if not even a bit more. Her face and tail were hardly specks at this point, and her feet were long gone. "Now Fluffy.." She took a deep breath, knowing this was the one that would make or break the performance. "Discharge.. on yer Spores!" She barely remembered to specify- not that the Mareep probably didn't remember from training with Kitty and Ryan, but it certainly didn't hurt. As instructed, she launched the attack, electricity moving out of and deflating her body wool slightly only to supercharge- being literally Charged from before- the Cotton Spores floating around her, blowing them up to ridiculous proportions: roughly equal to the size of Fluffy herself now, and essentially sticking to her. The Mareep was still floating for a brief while longer, and in case the effect wasn't obvious enough, Kitty announced rather proudly with a giggle, "It's a CLOUD!" And indeed, the Mareep had essentially become a mid-sized cloud floating around the stage, wool flashing occasionally even with little jumps of electricity. Of course... the whole getting down part was rather less practiced and graceful, and after a lap and a half like this, the Mareep fell to the floor and shook violently, scattering balls of super-charged wool everywhere. Blushing a bit, Kitty laughed nervously and recalled her Pokemon before rushing off to see where Ryan went as a festival worker sighed and moved in the clear off the stage really quick. [/scrolly] |

[ Delilah ]
[scrolly:h(250),w(375),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:5px;)]Once the stage was again suitable for performing, Delilah took her turn. This had honestly always been something that mildly interested her, but she'd never had an opportunity before now. Given the relative rarity of contests in Era, she had never really practiced on her own, either. Of course, her Pokemon were also almost exclusively pets outside of Cyn and Prim, too... Eh. At any rate, she wasn't exactly sure how this was going to go, but she was still a bit excited.
Leashing her fairly new Nidoran♂, she mentally went over how she was going to do this. She had the idea, but the precise details kept getting mixed up in her head somehow. The fact that all the appeals she'd been watching before- and which hot guys from those appeals she was hoping to bump into again- kept sticking in her mind and distracting her wasn't really helping. She took a deep breath for courage, nodding to Howl who nodded back.
"Time to get pumped up," came her sultry voice, and in a moment the Nidoran was engulfed in the brownish flame of sorts of a Focus Energy, though this exploded and dissipated soon enough. It was shameless and flashy, but she had room, so why not. With any luck it'd be taken as preparation for the hard work to come.
"Hazards," she ordered simply. Every barb on the bunny's body blazed blueviolet briefly before bursting forth with terrible toxin. These droplets grew and crystallized into Toxic Spikes, which were flung forward. "And catch." Now here came the hard part. Rushing forth, Howl let out quite a howl indeed, piercing and grating, but with quite the interesting effect. One spike managed to escape him, causing Howl to nearly falter and Delilah to curse under her breath, but the Nidoran kept up his Supersonic and the appeal went on- the wave catching the light spikes before they hit the ground and pushing them into the air.
Breathing a little heavier to calm down, Delilah promptly if more sternly ordered, "Freeze!" After the fact she realized that her irritation causing her to sound colder there was actually appropriate, resulting in a small smirk, though she really doubted the audience could clearly here her anyway. Following the order, Howl leashed a Blizzard into the air, where the spikes were again falling, this time freezing them solid and flinging them all outward. "And finish," she ordered, confident again, and the Nidoran began to glow slightly as orbs of light formed around him, circling faster and faster until finally launching out, hitting (most of) the frozen spikes in the air and causing them to shatter into slightly shimmering dust.
His burst of effort complete, Howl tried not to pant too obviously as he took a bow. Delilah followed suit with just a nod toward the judge-- ooh, he was even pretty cute, wasn't he?-- before she recalled the Nidoran and headed out. ... Now where had that dark-haired guy toward the beginning gotten off to, she wondered...[/scrolly]

There weren't many people left in this part, and she wasn't sure from the looks of it how many of those were participating. Whatever the case, though, it was getting late, and she knew if she was going to go she should do it already. She hadn't been watching the recent appeals. After getting an idea of the competition at the beginning, she realized that it only stuck in her mind and detracted from her concentration on her own appeal. Now, however, she was starting to wish she had. She really had no idea what she was doing. Kali had always loved battling- strategy, statistics, type match-ups, and general displays of power. Coordinating was something covered in one chapter of middle school Pokemon basics and mentioned occasionally in advertisements. She'd never seen a real appeal before today, and the only ones she'd even watched on television were brief highlights in movies- even that being few and far between. Really, even that left her rather confused. Standards for contests seemed to vary so much in her mind that she couldn't understand how someone would just want to be 'a coordinator' with no specifications. Eh.. Maybe adapting was part of the appeal to them. Personally, she'd stick with glorified cockfights. With a deep breath, the young woman stepped out onto the edge of the stage, Premier Ball in hand. She'd gone over this approximately three thousand two-hundred seventy-six times in her head today, but that alone wouldn't ease her nerves. She had no idea if this sort of thing would go over well here or not, but she didn't have much choice. She really wanted the prizes, and after having done well in the.. 'other' pageant, she honestly couldn't say her ego wasn't a little hyped to try to win everything. Thus, she would work with what she had. Kali knew little about coordinating. But she did know a bit about romance novels... "Ladies and gentlemen..." she announced, voice just strong enough to hear all right but a little small in effect. "We've come to tell you a story..." Tossing the ball out, a Lilligant as white as its container appeared on the stage. Kali had debated using her more vibrant Shiny Lilligant instead, but considering the nature of her performance, she didn't know whether it may help or hurt her odds that particular Pokemon actually once belonged to the judge in question.. At any rate, the albino was rather more good-natured and consistently compliant, and was just a touch rarer. She had a feeling she'd need all the bonus points she could get. This was the other reason she'd waited so long, as well. She didn't want her poor albino out at high noon if she could help it, so going later in the day spared that. "Once upon a time, there was a beautiful Lilligant, as white as the snow of Christmas morn'." Magnolia took her cue now to half-bow half-curtsy to the audience, especially Felis; while she couldn't actually pull her skirt-looking lower half much, she certainly made the motion at any rate. The introduction complete, she moved to one side of the stage began to glow slightly, closing her eyes to concentrate until a mass of energy formed across from her- the ethereal image of a Shiftry. "She was in love with a brave but ugly Pokemon from another tribe," she continued. Inside, she thanked Arceus that had worked; forming that Substitute into the proper shape had been the only thing they'd really had to practice. Outside, however, she tried to remain calm. "But alas, it was not so simple as following her heart." A quick Double Team created a small group of stationary Lilligant around her- also albino, which wasn't especially ideal for emphasizing Mag's rarity but did work for the whole somehow-related factor, Kali supposed- while Magnolia looked confused and shocked to see them. "For the Lilligant's tribe was also beautiful, and they did not want her to be with the ugly Pokemon." As Magnolia feigned a tale and plea, Kali narrated, "She tried desperately to explain to them that his looks meant nothing, for he was beautiful on the inside, but to no avail." Here one of the copies shook its head, though this caused them all to flicker a bit. It was hard enough keeping the Double Team up, and manipulating it took quite a bit of work. Fortunately it wouldn't be much longer. "They attempted to convince her that tribal life was better than her love. They would dance together-" Magnolia began an Entrainment, less effective on humans than Pokemon by far, but just slightly compelling the audience to consider dancing along. The copies began to dance as well, but became significantly less convincing, growing a bit semi-transparent. "-and sang tributes to their tribe, and her as the most beautiful among them." And the Lilligant let out a Round, just almost passing for more than one voice. "She did enjoy this." Here Mag was finally able to drop the copies. Good thing; Kali was already mentally cursing how much they'd faltered. "But she still felt so empty.." After a bit of a pause to let Magnolia look depressed, Kali went on in a rather darker tone, "One day, while she was out, a violent storm came." And on cue, a Leaf Storm brewed, growing steadily stronger and darkening the full stage a bit. "The tribe who had been so eager to keep her to themselves would not risk themselves for her sake. As the storm worsened, she knew she was alone." Here things would get a little risky. The rules had said around five moves. Six was around five, right? And her song and dance had been so close in timing and effect... Surely this would be all right.. wouldn't it? At least she shouldn't get disqualified or anything... right? Of course, if that was the only risk, Kali wouldn't have been quite this nervous. "The Lilligant had two choices. She could fight the storm to return to her tribe, or use it to run to her love. For the first time in a long time, she followed her heart." True to Kali's words, Magnolia trudged against the storm of her own creation toward the still-standing substitute, which was itself taking a fair beating from the leaves, though she'd done her best to keep the storm more to her side of the stage than its. "Though she could not see it, she knew he was coming for her as well." And here the Lilligant collapsed, falling to barely catch herself before faceplanting. Judging by Kali's continued somber tone, this was still quite scripted. "But alas, the storm was too great. Elsewhere, her love, too, was succumbing to its might." Forcing herself up, Magnolia placed her hands together and bowed her head. "Concerned now for not only her love but her tribe back home, the Lilligant began to pray. She begged any deity listening to please end the storm before more were harmed, offering herself in exchange for their safety if it would appease them." At this point, Mag began to glow with a nearly blinding light, cutting through the storm- which by this point may have been dying off quite a bit anyway but Kali hoped people were too distracted to notice that. "They listened," she went on even as the light grew. "Little did she know that her beloved, truly as beautiful inside as she believed, had gotten the same idea." The Healing Wish took full effect now, and in a radiant burst the albino Lilligant fell to the earth truly unconscious. As a result, her Substitute faded as well, the light of her life force used to create it being absorbed back into her, joining with her. "Thanks to their combined effort, their peoples were spared. The remaining Lilligant learned that some things were more important than appearance." Kali held out the Ball and recalled Magnolia. "And the two lovers were together at last." With a small bow of her own, the girl rushed backstage again, wondering how overdone that had really been or just how appalled the audience must be at her Pokemon's scripted fainting on-stage.[/scrolly] | [atrb=style,border:0 black none;] |
