"Yeah, I will...." he answered back quietly before shutting both eyes and thinking everything over a bit calmer now though his mind still spun over a few things. He really didn't know what to say or how to begin to bring it back up again -though he had a feeling it would be brought up for him sooner or later, anyways. Putting that away for now, Lyall thought on Iris. What was she even doing out here? She wasn't supposed to be up here, damn it. If she'd let him know what she was doing he could have done something else or have been prepared for it. No, she'd lied to him. At realizing this, Lyall froze. She said she was going to be in the West, and here she was up north.... But she could have been out West and something could have just been brought up in the North. That was true, that would explain it! Yet.... that sliver of doubt was now curling up and settling itself in Lyall. Ugh... looks like he had two conversations to have later.
"...So why don't you have a car if you're the Duke and all?" Lyall asked after another thought came up. It would have been so much easier if the Duke had drove here, and they could just ride down that way. That would have made this entire waiting game go away, and he wouldn't have had to learn all this and question and -.... Then and there, Lyall found himself caught between wanting to just drop it and throwing that out the window and....not. It could have or maybe wouldn't have come out later, but just...ugh...

Nik leered sharply at this new question. "I don't wanna talk about it," he spat a little hurriedly. Meanwhile, flashing memories from a certain car wreck wheeled through his mind. "Let's jus'say you caught me at a bad time."
Granted, that had actually been last winter when the ice was really bad.. His mom was hesitant to let him have another until he proved he wouldn't hurt himself this time (even if he'd fortunately come out of that with only some cuts and scrapes and a cracked arm that healed quickly enough), but then Nik... hadn't really pushed it. And he could probably just buy his own car now that he'd inherited all this with his title, but.. meh. Because like... with a car, he was expected to.. you know.. go places. Alone. By himself.
But without one? EH. He could usually get some 'friends' or other to pick him up for any party he wanted to go to, assuming he wasn't the host to start, or ask or pay someone to drive him wherever else he wanted to go. ...If aallll else failed... his Smeargle did know Fly. :B It was an awkward and terrible way to travel, but it worked in emergencies, such as tonight, and it was so awkward that no one ever really asked him to use it or judged him for not doing so except in emergencies.
So.... yeah. :B Chauffers were the best thing and he wasn't planning to give that up soon, heh....

"Thanks. I guess, if you'd call half-hopping, half-limping walking," she snorted dryly, mostly disappointed in her stupid mistake as she leaned more on Alex. Right now, she just needed comfort. Though she wasn't usually the type, this was one of those times when she just...needed it. What surprised her was Alex being so quick to offer it.
She let in a sharp breath as she felt his lips on her temple, however brief. A small smile spread on her face, as did a pinkish tint. "I appreciate it...I really do. I just...I don't know how to tell Ly...I didn't tell him what I was planning. He thought I was out West the whole time until now. He probably thinks I lied to him..." Her voice shook slightly as tears threatened to stain her face. "I don't know what I was thinking, if anything at all. I just..." Her voice broke off. "Thanks. For you know, being there." In all honesty, this was probably the most open Iris had ever been with anyone, much less Alex, of all people. Though right now, the woman really didn't care.

After a few moments, she just put on a feather-light smile and gave a small "Heh."
She helped Iris turn then, and-- very, very slowly... only out of concern for Iris of course and not- okay so she was also stalling a little-- headed toward the door. "Hey.. Knights're br--..family.. right? I'll help you face 'im if you'll help me.." Hesitantly, she tried to force a laugh. It didn't really come out as planned, but she hoped it was at least obvious enough she was trying. "I mean, really." She was trying to be dry and snarky, but it was really just coming out more nervous. "Th'guy's a bartender. I cannot be the only person he's ever known ta regret a drunken one-night stand.. right?"

"Despite our differences, you're still my brother. I got your back. Always. That runs deeper than what petty differences we may have."
At the one night stand comment, Iris muttered, "At least you knew yours..." though maybe less under her breath than she'd originally intended. Oops. Iris shook that thought from her head quickly.
"Alright. We do this together, but I refuse to explain in front of that Duke. Not just because it won't look good that I tried to assassinate a Northern Count...." Iris looked at Alex one more time, then back at the door. "Let's do this shit."

She... knew the one she regretted most, but... that... may have had as much to do with the fact she didn't remember a lot of them as well and--... Well, there was a reason Alex didn't get drunk too often. She knew her limits pretty well and it wasn't too rare to hang out after work and have a little, but if she didn't watch it, she... Yeah, two pretty words in her direction and she tended to be sold.. <<;;
"Honestly, I'm not even sure Nikki would care-" dammit had she really just slipped that pet name? Damn habits. "-unless it was a friend o' his.. which I kin'a doubt." She sighed. "I really do apologize for all this.. I wanted my brother to come watch you until we got here, but he was way out of town and..." Another sigh. "I swear that asshole's capable of being a halfway decent human being occasionally. I don't know what's gotten into him these past few years..." She shook her head. "Dumb bastard.."
Raising a foot, she carefully pushed the door open that way so as to keep a better hold on Iris... her 'sister'... heh. That reminded her.. she hadn't seen or heard from Dasha in ages.. They hadn't been as close as she and Nik-- either 'she', for that matter-- but Alex always liked her. It was a shame she'd drifted off so much. Ah well.
Inside, Nik suddenly flinched a bit as if feeling a disturbance in the universe... and suddenly he was just very sad. <:[

When the door was pushed inwards again, a red eye opened and looked sideways as Alex and Iris reentered the Center. There was a brief moment that Lyall smiled, but it came and went rather quickly. "Ya both ok?" he asked as it seemed the first thing that came to mind and therefore the first thing out of his mouth. [/scrolly] |

"Yeah, we're fine. We were just...talking," Iris answered as calmly as possible, her eyes locking on Lyall, attempting to forget Nik was even there.
"But...I need to talk to you now. You need to know the truth...I was out West, doing my...research as I said I would. Afterwards, I decided to do...well...I did something stupid, Ly...." Her voice trailed off. "Before I explain...I want you to know I take full responsibility...I attempted to go North--here...and take care of a personal issue against my former fiance...Which ended up in a shootout between me and his bodyguard. Both of us got it pretty bad..." Her voice cracked, and she looked away."I'm sorry...I shouldn't have...."

Alex helped Iris move inside until Lyall's question, at which point she stopped a little cold. From here she could feel Iris's pulse pick up... or prayed that was Iris's pulse, and that it would mask her own from the woman. She tried to look to him as well, but faltered almost immediately and averted her gaze. She kind of wanted to say something but.. this was Iris's moment. So she'd just.. be here for backup if it was needed.
Meanwhile, Nik had just sort of taken to focusing on Jasna- and carrying on something akin to conversation in private- until the others returned. He only half-dropped in listening at first, more concerned with holding his Mienshao in the air like an 'airplane', going back and forth between just holding her and starting to try to tickle her, always stopping just when she'd start to complain. Ahhh, Jas was the funniest ferret<3
At any rate, once he really caught what she was saying, Nik let her finish, then shrugged and muttered off-hand, "Don't be all vague on my account. I really don' care whatchu do." After a few moments, he brought Jasna back down to his chest (not that she didn't hang down about that much anyway, but he brought all of her down) and glanced toward them. "Actually... 'dyou say Malone earlier? ...Really, strictly off-record, ya should'f just let me know." That bastard did nothing but make his job harder, as far as Nik had ever seen. As much as he loved nobility as a system, he didn't have any particular attachment to many specific nobles, and... Hey. Look at his luck so far where fallen nobles were involved. More power for him, the way he saw it.
... As a very belated afterthought, it did occur to him that whatever they had been planning... or were still planning?.. out west could affect Stormy and her family... but that was dismissed more quickly than it had come.

At least she had gone out West... Then it hadn't been ... a complete lie... Though she'd gone up North without even letting him know. She could have just... died up there or something, and... he would have searched all over the West and never found her, damn it. What had originally been a question of lying had shifted completely, and concerned mixed with a chaotic irritation at her and himself followed suit. He wasn't going to ask why she didn't call and let him know. He wasn't going to demand all the details at the moment. Instead, he just found himself standing there fuming a little. "Damn it, Iris.... if you had just told me .... " he started before breaking off unable to find the words to express how he felt on the matter. "What if you hadn't been able to call me? I wouldn't have bee able to find you, and what if..." he broke off and found himself more or less just staring at her with that mix of emotion still playing onto his face. After a moment, he looked away completely and ended up crossing his arms in front of himself. "I can't have ..." Lyall broke off for a moment and eyed Nik before looking back. "I can't have a person I put full trust in going around and changing plans and not telling me." he sighed, physically deflating before slowly looking back at Iris. He wanted to say more but couldn't find the words to even begin with. However, after a minute or two, he sighed and slowly forced something of a weak smile that came off as more of a grimace. "....And... heh... I....guess we're gonna have to work on accommodating ya at work..." he said in a quiet tone trying to laugh and be humerus about it and pretty much failing.

Let me guess, you had a drunken good time with him too," Iris spat in his direction before focusing back on Lyall. "I know....I wasn't thinking...." Iris looked at a far corner of the room, her face looking much like that of a scolded child.
"I'm not making excuses. That's not me. I slipped up, I should have called. I'll never do it again..." She looked down at her leg. "Trust me. I just wanted to--" Whoa, hold it there. No need to explain THAT far. Her eyes then lit up. "Ya know...I found this thing awhile back about how to modify a crutch a few different ways..." She flashed a grin, somewhat returning to normal.

And in an exceedingly rare display, Nikolai von Einzbern looked as repulsed as horrified. "What the hell, man, even I have standards." That and he hadn't really been around Tray very often. But from what little he'd ever seen... UGH. He gave an obvious shudder. ... Of course, there were probably plenty of people as or more horrible than Nik who would think much the same thing about Nik, but that was really beside the point.
Becoming... actually mildly pouty, the young Duke stand-in muttered, "I would'f offered ta help you, bitch..." Whatever.
In the meantime, Alex debated whether or not to say anything yet. She considered trying to back Iris further, but... lying to Lyall was never something she did willy-nilly, and he seemed to be taking it.. at least well enough, so.... Yeah she'd just... keep being Iris's human crutch until she got a normal one. ...Or.. actually the couches looked great, yeah, she'd just... prod Iris slightly to keep moving toward those.

She just wanted....? To kick that guy's ass, dugh Ok, yeah he really should have thought of that. Anything beyond that was lost to Lyall. A quiet chuckle managed to escape from Lyall at Iris's finishing statement. "We'll see..." he answered back before looking towards Alex for a moment. "....Alex... I...." Lyall started before falling silent a moment. He was going to have to say it. It already came to mind and had played on his mind. "I just wanna say I'm sorry for judging ya or... yeah...." he sighed and forced a half-laughed that died on contact with the air. Raising a hand, he set it on the back of his neck and forced one of the cheesiest smiles he could ever make. "Just... caught me off guard, heh..." he finished still forcing a rather odd smile and a laugh.

She couldn't believe she almost slipped up. She almost admitted that she was just trying to impress him....
At the prodding, Iris started toward the couch, looking over at Nik with a dirty look. She broke from Alex's grip, making her way to a couch and flopping on it, looking as if she was about to cry and kill everyone at the same time. She almost told Nik exactly what he could go do, but words escaped her. For the first time in her life, Iris Lillian Hennesy looked like a kicked puppy.

When Iris flopped down, Alex thought very much of doing the same, but she.. found she couldn't muster the energy for even that. Somehow, just standing seemed more effortless than bothering with such a display, even if the end effect of said display was total relaxation. ...Really, Alex didn't think she even wanted to relax at the moment. She was.. too tense.. It would have felt wrong.
After a few moments just standing there with her back to Lyall, she finally sighed, but still didn't turn to face him. "It just..." Ugh, she hated getting like this. It was so hard to make her voice sound convincing; it changed in a little different way than a guy's would, and... You know what? At this point she didn't care. "It shouldn't matter what I've done before."
"Or who," Nik jabbed on pure instinct.
To his credit, he looked regretful even a moment before she whipped toward him and snapped. "SHUT your fucking. FACE. NIK." She huffed in exasperation.
"...Sorry man.."
All the same, she did add, "Or who.." She hadn't intended to dwell on that part so much but.. dammit now she really felt the need to elaborate. "And you... shouldn't read so much into it when you know I've liked Se--... Saber.. for years." The pace was starting to pick up a bit. Oh no, she was starting to ramble, wasn't she? "Especially not when it was over a year ago and I was drunk off my ass-" shit, now her voice was deteriorating into a pure mess but she couldn't seem to stop- "and I thought I could trust certain people and I--" A sound that could hardly be argued as anything but a sob escaped her, but she fought back any more even as she fought the steady shaking that had started.
Nikolai bolted into an upright position. "Hey now." He did not like what she was trying to imply there; if there was one thing he had no tolerance for in all his long list of 'interests', it was anything even vaguely non-consensual. ...Er, he meant.. It was one thing to pressure Stormy and... okay, so that was probably his guiltiest pleasure (in that it was the one he actually felt worst about in retrospect), but she was his future wife so it wasn't like it wasn't inevitable anyway, and also that bitch was insane and kicked his ass regularly and if he didn't find something to make her uneasy there was pretty much no way he'd ever get her to listen to anything he said, and even then if she really didn't want it, there was no way he would ever, ever, EVER actually force anything, ever.
And suddenly, the noble found himself at a crossroads. Alex should know this about him... but her friends didn't. As many terrible (or terrible in most people's opinions) true things as there were about him, he really couldn't stand the thought of non-self-propagated lies on top of it. But... Sighing his conceit, he finished, "I told you, it...was a misunderstanding..." There. Compromise.
Alex sighed, more or less ignoring him, but... grateful for the gesture. That wasn't entirely what she'd meant, but... yeah this probably helped her case a bit. Finally, she took a deep breath for courage and turned to face her..... whatever he was to her.. boss, crush, best friend..? Attempting to stand square and strong, she more or less announced, if in a weaker voice than she would have liked, "I'm Alex Tesar. I've loyally followed your lead since before the kingdom fell. We've spilled blood together, and we'll probably do so again before this is all said and done, and you won't hear an ill word from me about it as long as it's done at your command."
She dared to make full actual eye contact, brown eyes moist but resolute. "So Lyall... what else matters about me?" She'd never strained so hard to get a good aura reading, but his reaction remained as inconclusive to her as ever. Damn her eyes.. All the same.. she watched carefully for any normal cue. It was almost a shame he had no idea just how deep this question ran... and at the same time, she was so very eternally grateful.

However, for all the thought he had put into what he wanted to say, the first thing that came out of his mouth wasn't -- well it was somewhat relevant but... "You like Saber?"
Well... back on ... the more pressing topic... After a moment, he coughed and rubbed the back of his neck looking at Alex square in the face. Something a bit more serious than before set itself on Lyall's features after that. "Nothin'," he answered back flatly sighing a little but keeping an easier expression. Just as long as your allegiance stays mine... That didn't get said. Lyall already knew from the tone and words used that it was inferred, but somewhere in his mind, he found he had to make that point....

It was almost like no one else in the room even existed, not even Ly, or how she felt about him. At this point and time she was a total disappointment to him anyway. She wanted so badly to tell him why she really did this stupid stunt, but she couldn't. She couldn't tell him that the main reason was to impress him. She just...couldn't. Ever. So she'd just stay by his side(if he even let her anymore), following him like a love-sick puppy.
"I need a drink..." the ex-assassin muttered weakly. Though it was highly unlikely that even any of the Knights saw Iris drunk. But right now, despite the consequences, that's what she wanted. Those purple eyes squeezed shut, a single tear rolling down her cheek.

A loud clap echoed through the Center lobby as Alex facepalmed-- hard-- to Lyall's first response. She groaned slightly, but at his real answer she gave a sigh of relief and just.... dropped down where she was, which happened to be in the floor right in front of Iris's couch, which she then leaned back against.
Nik.. couldn't really deny how curious he was, but he'd tried to refrain. When Lyall asked too, though, it just pressed it that much more. Not for the first time tonight, someone thought, ..Alex swings that way? Of course, this time, rather than 'squick' and 'so wrong', it was accompanied with thoughts more on the lines of '...hot~' After a few moments of everyone just... stuck in their own thoughts, then, Nikolai finally couldn't help himself. "..Saber?"
Alex twitched at first, but then sighed. She was too tired to look for a fight; if the question looked innocent enough, she was just going to let it stay that way. "She's Lyall's... cousin, of some degree or other." She was actually pretty certain she'd heard more than one story on that, but the important part was just that they were related in general. "..Actually.. You remember me talking about Seles back in my early-ish training? Whenever I'd call home and we might talk?"
Nik thought on that, and... "Vaguely." Then, with a little more 'oh yeah' sort of quality, "You mean that girl knight you like idolized?"
Alex fought a small cringe and barely won. That wasn't really the best word, considering. ..Well it.. really was in a totally truthful context, but not the best for this conversation. ..Eh. Still, this did help her 'see I totally like girls' argument to some degree. "Heh.. Yeah, her." ...Come to think of it... Alex wondered for a moment if she wasn't just knightsexual, which earned a small chuckle; she didn't explain this, but moved along instead. Half-back to Lyall, she lightly mused, "I could've sworn you knew that.." And back to Nik. "I started hanging out with Lyall in the first place hoping he could introduce me to her--"
.....................Dammit. Wow that was really a horribly terrible thing to admit out loud wasn't it. She hesitated for just a second, then, but finally decided to just force a cheesy if weak grin and try to finish it as best as she could. "..But then I realized he was pretty fucking awesome so I just kept hanging out with him instead."
"...........Heh." Nik gave a weak smile at that, but... yeah.. So it seemed he had been right about Lyall being the guy she'd barely shut up about during a number of conversations-- a few to him, and a few to other people in his family's household that he'd just happened to catch pieces of. But he was going to pretend that didn't bother him, just like he was going to pretend that the fact there was apparently a woman who Alex liked more than him didn't hurt his pride at all (no matter how hot it may have been). He had to wonder if she was actually bi now and had just been trying to hide it (in which case it actually wouldn't have been nearly such a blow), but.. Alex was generally pretty selective with her lies. No, he was pretty sure she was still, for the most part apparently, straight. ...Dyah. Maybe he should have become a knight or so--.....Okay he couldn't even think that with a straight face lol no.
In the meantime, Iris had been not only quiet, but very unresponsive at all. It was like she was in her own little world, and no one else in the room existed or something. (*shot*) Eventually the murmur escaped from her: "I need a drink..."
Nik and Alex both glanced her way in response, though clearly Alex had the better view. She frowned immediately, but couldn't think of words just yet. Uuuuhhh... Think Alex, c'mon. Do something awesome be comforting you can do it. ...Uhhh.
"You an' me both," Nik sighed. Then, a little lighter and brighter, "I'll buy?"
Alex deadpanned in his direction. "Nik, you're only twenty."
"As of two weeks ago, thanks for remembering," he muttered dryly. ...Oops? She really just knew he was a year younger than her. Well whatever. "There are privileges to being a Duke.." he half-bragged, half-pouted. Alex just sighed and shook her head, a hand raising to cover her face and rub her temples. At least... their ride was bound to be here soon... right..?

As the conversation continued, that sweat drop only increased. She... idolized Selly? -Saber- ? Well.. Seles was... pretty impressive.... and pretty strong... and well .. just pretty. Heh, those violent emerald eyes that she always shot at him.
................. But....Alex'd actually started hanging around because... of Saber... Well, the ego pet that quickly followed was somewhat soothing at least. Wonder where Saber is anyways.... Lyall thought to himself remembering her leave from the Knights. Maybe she found Ieri or something.... And that brought a frown to Lyall's face. Where the fuck was that guy anyways? At the point that everything was breaking down, he just vanished without so much as a trace.... not that ... Lyall cared where he was! No way. He was happy with his new power and happy where he was in the world, and he didn't care about where Ieri was.
As Iris spoke, Lyall came out of his slight mental monologue and looked down realizing that he had turned his gaze upwards when he was thinking. "Nah, I'll make," was all he answered back as thoughts of his bar came back again.

Besides, Iris wasn't one to beat herself up for very long, on the off-chance she actually beat herself up. Which she did....probably less often than she drank. The woman adjusted herself on the couch.
"I don't care if it falls from the sky," she sighed, focusing on the ceiling as if wishing booze would literally drop onto her lap from above. "I just want a drink." She sat up, cracking a grin, trying to swipe the confusion from what she caught of Alex's speech from her head. Not that she would judge Alex or dislike her or anything. After all, what room did Iris have to do that, of all people?
"Hey...when's this so-called 'help' supposed to get here, again? Good thing I'm not dying." Anymore.
