Getting Stronger [open]

It had been an awfully long time since Flora had done anything worth noting. She'd bought or won a few Pokemon here or there, but for the past several months she'd been just surviving. She knew she could do better, she knew she was good enough at this battling thing by now to make a name for herself--well, using Leaf Storm with the ability Contrary and high speed for one-hit KO's may not exactly count as strategy, but she was at least good at using her Pokemon's strengths when she figured out what they were.

As it stood now, though, Dacronis was still her only "real" battler. She'd gained many other Pokemon in this past--what, has it already been a year?--but she hadn't really trained any of them.

As she stood in front of the Battle Center--or whatever the hell it's "official" name was--she was determined that today, that was going to change.

She only had newer, weaker Pokemon with her today, and she knew quite well she could lose--but even if she did, it wouldn't be like a battle with a random stranger on the street where things could get out of hand. True, this place would also have her battling strangers, but they were less random--here specifically to battle, somewhat civilly at least, not too much was at stake, and altogether a better environment to train.

She entered, and went inside to find someone to train against.

He'd only been there a few minutes, in truth, yet he was already impatient to have a battle going. However, there didn't seem to be anyone in the are that didn't already have a battle going, and therefore, Haii had just decided to wait and see who came in. As the sound of someone entering hit his hears, he looked up instinctively looking for a challenger. The girl who had just entered would do. "Hey," he called before forcing himself up off the wall and walking over towards Flora. "Want to battle?" was the question that was posed. Well that was blunt enough for anyone, wasn't it? Flora stopped walking as she heard a voice calling 'hey,' and looked around. She didn't really expect it to be aimed at her, though she always checked when she heard things like that in non-crowded places because she certainly didn't want to ignore anyone on the off-chance they were talking to her.

As she saw the dark-haired man looking at her, though, it was pretty obvious that his question had, indeed, been aimed at her.

This was easier than she thought it would be.

"Yeah I do! That's. Kind of why I'm here actually." Kind of? Exactly why else would someone come here? "So, uh, right, any... Like, restrictions you want to put on the battle, like uh, however many Pokemon or something? Or just like, a regular battle?"

That was even more awkward than usual, Flora mentally noted.

"Right," eh answered back. "Six on six double battle work?" he asked. Lately, Haii had been growing comfortable again with Double Battles. down in in the Orre, he had grown up using the system and had only transferred to single battles in Era seeing as that appeared more of the norm for whatever reason. However, given that he'd been asked the set up, Haii decided to suggest it. [/scrolly]

Flora nodded quickly. "Sounds like a plan!"

Double battle, huh? She'd done those a few times before, but wasn't as deft at them as she supposed she could be. Training for her as well as her Pokemon then, she mused.

As the narrator is not entirely certain whether or not they were already in a part of the center suitable for battling, she will pretend for now that they weren't and after a few awkward words from Flora found a place that was. If where they were was fine, feel free to disregard the above.

Now that it has been established that wherever they are is where they're going to battle, Flora let out her first two Pokemon: "Go, Leafy and Jonquil!"

A female Chikorita and a male, Shiny Riolu materialized out of the red light.

"Looks like training's started," she said to the both of them. They looked at--

at this point, Flora realized she'd been rather rude. "Uh, I guess I should know your name before we battle, heh. Uhm, I'm Flora, and you are...?"

As the pokemon were released, Haii couldn't help but blink at the Riolu. However, it was only for a second, and in another, he was looking back at Flora. "Haiiro," he answered back before drawing to pokeballs out. Releasing a Ralts who jumped up and down a few times and a Deino who simply stared a moment before making a rather odd snapping motion at Leafy and Jonquil. "They are Isa and Adelle," he explained making a directional point to the Ralts and then to the Deino. Alright, time to get this underway. "Both of you stay sharp," Haii ordered. "Adelle, Fire Fang the Chikorita. Isa-----" 'HIIIIIIIIII! My name is Isa! It's nice to meet you! Oh are we going to battle~? That sounds like fun! I love to battle, and I want to get stronger, so I can be as tall as Sai! Do you know Sai? He's so awesome! I wanna be just like him but Haii says I have to train and that I can't be him exactly but I can be as tall as him!'the Ralts babbled on using her psychic powers to project her thoughts to everyone and not even taking in that Haii was giving out orders at that particular moment. The dark haired man just sighed and shrugged his shoulders. Meanwhile, Adelle hesitated a moment before nodding her head and charging towards Leafy. [/scrolly]

Flora was about to give her own commands when Isa started on her psychic-ramble. Flora blinked, and hesitated several seconds, trying to discern what it was the Ralts was say-thinking, and, well, more importantly why. Once she had caught enough of the words to understand it was excited babbling, she almost chuckled, when the Deino caught Leafy off-guard--she had also been listening to Isa's rant, and had been giggling for a few moments when the attack hit.

The Chikorita cried out, and drew Flora's attention back to the battle in no time flat.

"Oh! Shit. Jonquil, Force Palm on the Deino, stat! Leafy, sorry honey, uh, Reflect!"

The Riolu gave a quick nod, and made to attack the young dragon who was, in turn, attacking his teammate. He didn't really think about the possibility of hurting Leafy in the process, but if Flora had--and, well, the Relfect was a good idea anyway, what with the Fire Fang Leafy just endured being Physical, and all.

Isa continued on as she directed her thoughts at Haii now. The dark haired man face/palmed but sighed. Sadly Isa had distracted Haii, and Adelle found herself unable to accuracy avoid the Force Palm. Crying out in pain, the Dark Dragon shook her head but either seemed to stubborn to show pain. "Fine Isa do what you want. Adelle use Incinerate on the Chikorita!" Haii called. Adelle formed the fiery move in her mouth much like the Fire Fang before releasing it streamwise at Leafy. Left to her own devices, Isa seemed to grin to herself. Forming a Psychic and glowing with the slight blue psychic energy, the Ralts released said Psychic attack in another second. [/scrolly]

Jonquil, being the fastest, managed to move first and land his attack first. As Leafy used her reflect, Isa's Psychic hit Jonquil--he couldn't stand the headache and other pains of the attack well at all, and fainted right off the bat. Flora cursed under her breath as she withdrew him, and only continued when Adelle used Incinerate. Despite the strength of its first attack, though, somehow her Leafy held onto consciousness. Pondering which Pokemon to send out next, Flora called, "Leafy, Synthesis!"

In another moment, she'd decided to just use the next Pokemon in her party, and said, "Toadette, you're up! And, uh, Hydro Pump on Ralts!" as a Poliwag appeared in front of them. It had a King's Rock on its head, wearing it like the crown it looked like. She blinked in surprise, and prepared to use the attack as Leafy healed.

Managing to push herself up if weakly, she shook her head a bit. Haii, meanwhile, was giving out orders. "Adelle use Dragon Rush on the Chikorita. Isa use Magical Leaf on the Poliwag," he called. Adelle snapped her jaws a moment before rushing at the Chikorita. The Ralts in question managed to work up a Magical Leaf and shot it. [/scrolly]

Poliwag, with the highest speed, managed to fire off her Hydro Pump first, and time enough to cheer that it did in fact, hit.

At around the same time, Toadette and Leafy were hit by their opponents' attacks. The Poliwag was hurt by a great amount, over half of her total HP, but was still well enough to battle.

Leafy, on the other hand, barely held on to consciousness (with only two hit points, actually, though there was no way for Flora to know the specifics). "Leafy, return," she instructed, withdrawing her Pokemon anyway. She preferred not to faint her Pokemon if she didn't have to. She'd have withdrawn her Poliwag, too, if she didn't think she could take down the Ralts in just one more turn.

She replaced her Chikorita with her Growlithe, calling "Saffron, ready for battle! How about... uhm... Oh yeah Reversal on the Deino! And, Tette, another Hydro Pump on Ralts!" That should hopefully let her regain at least equal ground--assuming both moves made contact. She'd been having good luck so far, but...

The Growlithe's attack hit Adelle causing the Deino to cringe. Though given that the Growlithe's HP was high and the power of the Reversal therefore wasn't, it was still a super effective move, and the dragon was now struggling to keep conscious. Rather than returning her, Haii ordered out another attack. "Hyper Voice," was the order. Adelle nodded and made to shout at the two pokemon. Meanwhile, Isa was quite literally flooded by the Hydro Pump and cried out a shrill sound (the ring of which would continue to echo in the back of her trainer's head for minutes after that) and fainted. Haii's bottom right eyelid twitched violently not so much from the fact that one of his pokemon had fainted so much that Isa'd managed to leave such a deadening tone in his head. Returning his Ralts before pulling out another pokeball, Haii released a Blitzle onto the field. "Li use Shock Wave" was the order. However, the shiny Blitzle had other things in mind. <Hello ladies> Li chimed before forming an Attract and shooting it at the Growlithe. Haii would have face/palmed if it were in his actual nature to do so. Instead, he sort of just stood there sweat dropping. Alright then. [/scrolly]

Flora was rather worried by the Shock Wave ordered, and relieved when it was disobeyed; though in truth, the Hyper Voice was a more powerful move--and more annoying.

"One moment guys..." she said, as she dug in her purse for her container of headache pills. She...never really did do well with loud noises.

Once she downed a pill and a bit of water from her canteen, she said, "All right! Saff, come back. Uhh, how about... Bugsy, yeah!" The orange dog Pokemon was replaced with the orange... uh... well, whatever the hell Trapinch was. Flora has never been a one to let Attraction stay on a Pokemon if she can help it because goddamn it's annoying to try to make Pokemon work through that.

Unfortunately, it looked to Flora like T'ette was about to faint, almost no matter what she did, and she really didn't like replacing two Pokemon in one turn... at least Poliwag was comparatively fast, she guessed. And hey, this could prolong that, maybe. "T'ette, uh Dive! And Bugsy, Earthquake."

After discussing with good mutual friend, the narrator agrees with the awesomeness that is SG's idea that since Dive is essentially Water-type Dig, the Poliwag quickly dug and high-pressure-watered the ground below it to make a large puddle/small pool of water just large enough for it to float in without touching the edges.

The Dragon type suddenly screamed out loudly mostly directed at the Trapinch before being rocked by the ground move and fainting soon after. Haii sighed and returned Adelle before pulling out another pokeball and releasing a rather odd looking Rioita, a Gothita/Riolu hybrid. Meanwhile, the Earthquake rocked Li rather hard, yet he managed to stay conscious at least. "Li use Light Screen," Haii ordered. Oh come now like hell he was going to do that~ The Blitzle smirked and instead formed a Charge beginning to draw his electrical power up. Haii nearly face palmed. Fine. "Koten use Psychic on the Trapinch," Haii ordered. The more obedient pokemon did what was asked. [/scrolly]

Oh god no-- Flora plugged her ears as soon as the word "screech" left her opponent's mouth. Next time she battled here she'd have to ask for no sound-related moves during battle... at least it was over quickly, and the sound waves broken rather than reflected off the turbulent ground.

She only barely kept her balance, though was happy to find that indeed, Toadette was unharmed by the Earthquake in her little pool of water. Before Flora even had a chance to say anything, she jumped out and (somehow) took a lot of the water with her as she attacked the Blitzle.

Bugsy looked pained by the Psychic attack, but stood tall (well, as tall as a Trapinch could) despite the pain. "Bugsy, ah what should you do... Oh yeah you can use Gust! _Somehow... Yeah Bugsy use Gust on the Rio..ita."

The Trapinch inhaled a breath, and prepared huff and puff and blow the Pokemon that really was the most wolf-like in this arena down. Wow, that reference wasn't actually fitting at all, was it?

Haii tried not to roll his eyes at the actions of his Blitzle. Li would listen to him someday....For now he'd focus on-- Koten. "Ow... pft that hurt..." the Rioita growled aloud in human speak. Hai fidgeted a moment remembering that the hybrid could talk. "Ko use..." Haii started, yet the Rioita suddenly seemed to smirk and issued out a Mirror Coat in retaliation. Haii sighed. =_= Both of them would need training.... [/scrolly]
