[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] Lance stern expression stayed glued to his face as she claimed she had never thought of shadowing her pokemon. Half of him figured she was telling the truth while the other half was certain she was still playing with him. Little did he know, both feelings were true. When she stated that most claimed shadowing pokemon to be cruel, he half scoffed, looking away from her for a moment before returning the gave as she asked her question. He didn’t often like to admit his views on pokemon. The same as he didn’t often voice his views on the rebellion. It showed his true nature which he felt he could only show to a few people. It was how he got above them all. Deception. Though he had let a few things slip with her as it was. Still…
“Pokemon are meant to serve humans.” He finally stated, “But my views on pokemon are highly irrelevant to weather or not you could shadow your pokemon.” He was growing annoyed with the questions. This woman was much too nosey for her own good. It didn’t seem to matter what subject they were on.

All the while, she'd been trailing behind him just a few steps, if to one side as to be seen at a glance. She was sort of following him, after all, without him particularly caring if she'd come or not. Now, however.. "Lance," she called, a sudden surge of confidence overtaking her voice. She hurried forward to close that gap now, then reached out to grab the far edge of his coat, both stopping him and turning him to face her.
Her grin at that point was almost painfully fake, despite the reasons being quite real. It was a look she wasn't even fully aware she mimicked from her master, save for a few details. While his eyes were usually distant, focusing on his thoughts (or so she always assumed), hers were set strongly on Lance's; and where his voice tended to go a little higher and as sweet as light, hers dropped slightly lower, also sweet but more a purr. "We are going to get along beautifully."
Without giving him a chance to reply, or cutting him off without care if he was starting to, she let go and turned as she began to walk forward again. "For the record, Shadowing is only worthwhile if the Pokemon isn't going to fight harder on its natural feelings." She shrugged just a brief moment. "Or if a trainer is willing to sacrifice power for control. Personally, I can deal with the rare consequence."[/scrolly] | [atrb=style,border:0 black none;] | [atrb=style,height:22;border:0 black none;] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] It was rare that his name was called out like that. When was the last time it had been? Ah, his little Rosa. She liked to call out to him. He was certain she was the only one. Perhaps Felis a few time but none that he could remember anymore. No one else ever called out to him. He was, on the other hand, use to being grabbed onto from the ladies. They were always so touchy. Didn’t matter if they were excited, happy, depressed, upset, angry or lustful. They always needed to touch. At least the men didn’t have that need. He would have punched out a lot of people. But her words, what did they mean? He hadn’t agreed to anything yet. Was she now just assuming that they would be working together? The only way he would work with group was if… wait.
Lance frown his eyes narrowing again but this time not out of anger. “You know a fair bit about shadowing pokemon for someone who never even thought about shadowing her own.” He commented, not evening thinking that her words from before were only indicating her Weavile. “I’ve read up on my fathers notes and heard something like that. But I have no way of indicating which of the information was fact or belief. True or false.” In other words he knew he still had a lot to learn about them. In the past year he had very little if any time to do so.

"Did I say I'd never thought of any~?" Really, how was it he was only just suspicious after a shift like that? "What else did you read in those notes, exactly, anyway?" So much could be accomplished from this question. She could see how educated he really was, figure out how much other nobles might know, establish what if any false rumors may be floating around among their fanbase- a much different scenario from the anti-Shadow propaganda they knew well by now- and gauge how it might effect them, and maybe even help him out. Maybe.[/scrolly] | [atrb=style,border:0 black none;] | [atrb=style,height:22;border:0 black none;] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] “I suppose you didn’t.” Lance agreed though his tone was dry and expression less than amused. “I do not know how much or little you know about the shadowed pokemon but I guarantee you I shall not be sharing any further information on them with you unless I in return gain some sort of profit.” And he did not mean money or treasures. He knew a bit about Shadow pokemon though. From what he had read, the writer had claimed that they came to be because the doors to their hearts had been closed artificially. Of course, as Kali had mentioned, it began in the Orre region. What had caught his eye the most in the notes was the explanation of how the pokemon acted. The shadow pokemon were never hesitant to attack at full force. They just let everything lose without so much of a blink. That power, even with the few that Kali mentioned failed, one could become undefeated.. Lance wanted that power more than anything but he wasn’t about to share that with some woman he had just met.

"You aren't as bright as you try to act, are you.." she mumbled with hints of all three feelings mingled throughout. "If you can't recognize an offer, I suppose I'll just have to retract it." She shrugged and smirked. "Though I suppose knowing you aren't as loose with your knowledge as you are your interest is good." She honestly had worried about that just a little, though she'd assumed he'd have guessed by now just what it was her master studied, so telling her wouldn't have given him any negative points, per se, but this did add a few positive in a sense. He'd gone down a little on her personal likability charts, but up as a potential co-worker. Well, that and she really did just want to see how riled he'd get over such bluntness. But he had to remember that she could not read his mind and she did not think what he thought. Which was a very good thing. “What I recognize right now, Miss Kalista, that you know a great deal more about the subject that you originally let on. I have great suspicion that it very well could be the subject you and your small group have been researching. I am also aware that it is still Mr. Alias whom I must confide in as it his lab. Therefore Miss Kalista, I am reluctant to give any of my own knowledge out unless I am granted a share of the research in your lab. Is that clear enough for you, Miss Kalista?” She had caused him to rant again, and he actually found it hard not to raise his voice this time. But he kept it down, despite the urge. Really he had a feeling the only thing keeping him from raising his voice was because his mind was mildly making sure he did not say too much to this woman. She was very good at getting people to talk about things and he was finding it hard to make sure he didn’t mistakenly let something slip.

As it was, she just kept up a smug, nigh-haughty grin. In an almost coddling tone, she asked, "Now why would I have let on that I knew anything before knowing you were honestly interested and not some worthless little spy~?" Or at least she was fairly certain his allegiance was legitimate. If he'd somehow predicted and manipulated her this far with so little to go on and was still holding up such a strong act this well... Kali may well just fall in love on the spot with such a mind.
However, she was quite confident he really was just interested and bad at catching hints. "For the record," she half-purred, "my dear beloved is much more inclined to get involved with those who already know a bit. Better allies than rivals, mmm~?" Still she did not directly mention the nature of their research, but if that wasn't just as good, he was even more dense than she thought, and she'd honestly have to question the ability of his company. That or if it was really 'his' or if he was just one of those regional manager types who got an inflated ego thinking they were more important than was actually the case. She'd have to lean toward the prior more than the latter as a Duke's family should certainly have the money (she knew how much Adrian poured on them after all), but that didn't mean he was as good a businessman as he was able to buy his way out of mistakes. But a spy? Did he look the sort to be a spy? Well it didn’t‘t matter. He was still going to be stubborn on this. After all, she was a woman. He saw no reason for her to know anything about shadow pokemon. Right now she should be by her husband to be, making him food and cleaning his messes. But as it was, women these days were lazy. Perhaps it was why he had never married. Well, one of a few reasons. “Well I shall remember to mention what I know to Mr Alias when I meet with him.” He replied stubbornly, “I really don’t see any gain in speaking to his secretary first.” He had made it to the top not because he was a noble, but because he had worked for it. It was much more than any worthless, lazy noble could ever claim. “If you aren’t the one I need to speak with to make the alliance then you are not the one I want to waste my time with.” A bit blunter than he meant to be, but perhaps she would understand better that way. He saw her as a nobody. A nothing. A waste of breath.

By the time he was finished, she was nearly rolling in the relishment of such power she held. She really wasn't sure if she'd ever seen such an ego, and that only made toying with him so much more satisfying. "I don't think you quite get it, sweetie~" she cooed.
"I can't make my master accept you, but I can ensure he doesn't. If you don't appease me, I just don't tell him about this, or even put in a bad word. And what are you going to find us with? A few carefully guarded names and the suspicion that we might be involved in certain activities? ..Based on what some teenage girl in the forest implied?" [scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] That conniving little wench. Slitting her throat right there and then would be a blessing but… well her death could cause a chain of reactions which could only make his end goal take longer. She was his door way to faster entry into the research he wanted done. It would most likely be more beneficial in the end just to play her game as there were more negative outcomes to positive outcomes for killing her. But honestly, He felt like a babysitter stuck in the child’s constant questioning of why. He couldn’t ignore the child’s questions and it wasn’t time for the child to go to bed. Someday he would get payback. Someday, he wouldn’t need to use her.
“Well played, Miss Kalista.” Lance gave in, though the stern look across his face had not shifted. He was trying his up most hardest not to explode on her, “The notes contained information about Ein, the creator of the process and Cipher, the head scientist at the time. They weren’t very detailed. They then went into how my family obtained it’s shadow pokemon. A few of them contained interest of relearning the process of shadowing but the notes are incomplete or missing.” The only thing it the last book had said about repeating the process was "shutting the door to their hearts". But how one went about doing such a thing was beyond Lance which was why a team of highly intelligent individuals would be handy to have. She didn’t seem highly intelligent to him, but her master, well, he had just had a good feeling about it. Perhaps why he was giving into her game just to get that chance to meet the man. It was belittling. [/scrolly] [bg=black] |

Of course, the longer this had gone on, the more she'd realized they would probably never get along, but annoying as he was, at least he didn't scare her. Anyway, the more employees she recruited, the more they could get trained well enough to be trusted alone, and the more time Leon could spend away with her. The sooner they could fix more machines and shadow faster. And the sooner they could get out of this depressing little country and travel the world together<3
"Good call," she mock-praised. "That isn't everything, though, is it? The more details, the better your case. I can wait if it's long." Actually, she took this as an opportunity to turn and find another nice tree to sit and lean back against. He wasn't going anywhere now, if he knew what was good for him, so she could finish resting. "Everything. Notes, stories, rumors on the streets, news stories you've seen. I want to hear it all." Really, it was win-win from her end. The more he knew, the better candidate. [scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] “All I wanted was peace and quiet.” Lance grumbled to himself as she demanded to know everything. He had set his left hand onto the elbow, his right hands fingers resting on his temple. The young lady was giving him a headache. He had not been expecting to deal with stress out in the middle of no where. In fact his intentions had been entirely the opposite. It had no included entertaining a stranger even if the subject was something he was interested in. The thing was, he was interested in learning more about the shadow pokemon, not explaining what he already knew. She had given him a list of what she wanted him to speak about but he still did not know where to begin. He liked having everything organized and prepared for speeches such as these and this he was not prepared for.
“Starting sometime in two thousands Cipher was founded and a group named Team Snag’em (a name he believed was foolish) was developed to steal pokemon for research and shadowing. It was rumoured that they had pokeballs which were capable of stealing pokemon from other trainers. Ein referred to the process of shadowing pokemon as ‘shutting the door to their hearts’ Or multiple doors. In result they become completely obedient, even willing to attack humans. They have their own special attacks known as shadow moves. Attacks such as Shadow rush, blast, bolt and a bunch more. They are super effective against all pokemon except other shadowed types, or so its rumoured. The development of the shadow pokemon and Ciphers scheme was silenced sometime in the year of two thousand and two or three I believe. I can‘t recall dates well. The silence had been caused by few people who had disagreed with the process and the arrest of Ein.” He couldn’t recall the names of who had ended Ein. Nor did he knew exactly what happened to Ein. But those details had not been important to him as his only goal was to learn more about the shadowing process. “I remember that time only because my father mentioned Cipher and King Nolan being connected.”
Lance believed Nolan and his father to be fools. They had been both controlled by power and greed. Lance knew he was no better for his own greed but believed he knew how to control it better. He hadn’t gained his wealth from his stats as a noble. That fortune had been left to his brother and Rosa. The wealth he had now had been purely gained by his own hands and determination. In Lances eyes, everything Nolan had was given to him or taken by power he had been handed. He hadn’t worked for any of it and therefore deserved to fall like the fake scum he had been. The Nobles were no better. For years he had schemed the fall of the nobles and in the end it was the reason he had given up his title. Though at the time he had not realized Felis would be around to take the title. Either way, He had not wanted to be tempted to use the title for power but instead proved he could gain his own power with his own tow hands. Now he returned to topple the nobility and hand Era over to the truly powerful and deserving. Finally the weak humans, with their foolish ideals and believes could be put into place while those who were clearly stronger could rise above. It would prevent the weak from getting in the way while the strong staid in power and those born into the already powerful would been weeded out. That was Lances true believes. His goals. Though he did still use his title of a noble to his advantage, he had at least had a clear understanding of what he was capable of doing with his own two hands and not the power given to him by a simple name and families wealth.
“The research continued and eventually did go public again. They had formed a more effective way to shadow pokemon and were researching to find a way keep the shadowed pokemon from being purified. A process that was mentioned in the notes but never elaborated on much. Apparently it was achieved sometime during a shadow pokemons Hyper Mode or Reverse Mode. It ties into their emotions or something. As the world knows, Cipher fell once again to some boy, Michael something or other.” Or at least Lance believed the world knew that. “My father claimed we were receiving our shadow pokemon through the King and his connections with Cipher. During the isolation it was the shadow pokemon that were, or at least I believe, were the cause of the strict isolation of Era. As far as I’m aware the shadow pokemon and Era’s connections with them fell along side the downfall of Cipher and the King of Era.” And it had been his own plain to reintroduce the shadow pokemon to Era but it seemed someone else had already beaten him to it. Now he just needed to weasel his way into it as well. Find equal grounds in which he could share the discoveries and if necessary, eliminate or partner whoever was funding the research currently. “Is that detailed enough for you, Miss Kalista?”

In all that, a few bits had been a little off, but were nothing crucial. He still had certainly done his homework, and knowing there was some discrepancy in the rumors floating around seemed nothing but good to her. Didn't want too many people getting too ambitious about things with accurate information unless they were under Leon and her, after all. (Mmm, under Leon<3)
Only two things had actually been news to her, and she didn't really care about Era's political drama. Her eyes widened a bit as her attention snapped back to him for a moment upon the mention of the other bit, but she held her comment and quickly went back to the dirt under her nails. One further bit did catch her attention, and she made note to mention it when he was done.
And when he finally was and his question was asked, Kali smirked up at him. "Yes, I suppose you'll do," she teased. At this point, a small though rather sudden laugh escaped her as she realized she'd just given him the same quiz verbally that Leon gave every new recruit after her on paper without even thinking about that fact. Well, in any case, he was definitely devoted enough from the sound of it. She supposed there was still an off chance he was a spy, but the odds were simply laughable by now.
"For the record, the 'more efficient' method only saves time; it doesn't make a better Shadow. Shadows are most effective when the door has been opened just slightly: when Pokemon can feel but still aren't controlled by those feelings, able to act despite them." Of course, this was completely her own observation and opinion, but Leon had never corrected it either, and she had mentioned this view several times.[/scrolly] | [atrb=style,border:0 black none;] | [atrb=style,height:22;border:0 black none;] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] Lance found himself rolling his eyes and crossing his arms over his chest as she claimed he would ‘do’. He needed to keep his temper down. He had shown it too much but he was finding it extremely hard. This woman infuriated him. He just had to remember he was using her just as much as she using him. Damn he hated being the under dog. Someday he would turn the tables and shove this back into her face. Someday, just not now. Right now he needed to keep his temper in.
As she explained something about the shadow pokemon Lance found himself losing a smidge of that anger, his mind going into the science of the shadow pokemon. “But in the notes it had claimed… hummm. Interesting.” He set his hand on his chin as he thought over what she had said. He had not known that the pokemon grew more effective when they could still feel that tiny bit of their emotions. Just imagine the power one person could have if they could lock a pokemon in that stat forever. “How did you come across this knowledge?” Lance suddenly asked, looking back at Kali now, his hand still on his chin. He a good feeling she had learned it all from her ‘master.’ but there was a chance she might have known a bit about the pokemon before then as well. It was always hard to tell.

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] Lance’s eyes widened suddenly when she claimed to be the granddaughter of Greevil. It was far from what he had expected to hear. He hadn’t even been expecting her to say she was a pervious scientist for the old labs. The knew knowledge of her history both angered and intrigued him. To think that such an annoying, over conceded brat was the granddaughter or… Ugh! It was so frustrating but he had so many questions he wanted to ask. So much he needed to learn. If she was that close… and even with a new lab studying them… he hated to do this but he had no choice. He wanted to insure his spot with them. To get his hands on this power. She enjoyed seeing him squirm. Seeing him swallow that pride. He could tell plain of day that she did. Hopefully he wouldn’t regret this later… too much.
Lance gave her a rather angered look for a moment before releasing a deep sigh, his anger disappearing and replaced with defeat. Slowly he fell down to his knees and held out his hands to take hold of one of hers. His head bowed slight, those dark eyes closing. “I beg you, teach me everything you know. I’ll do whatever it is you ask of me.” He was already starting to regret his current actions but he had no choice. He wanted this badly.

With an easy but very wide grin, she just chuckled as she stared down at him. For several moments, she simply relished the moment, basking in the glory that was her victory. She tried to slip her hand from his grip then, but found it tighter than expected. Eh, no matter. Mentally shrugging it off, she just altered her thoughts a bit and cooed anyway, "Good boy~ You're so cute." Her look and tone each just became that much more smug. "I'll put in a good word for you~" she told him, bringing up her free hand to ruffle his hair.[/scrolly] | [atrb=style,border:0 black none;] | [atrb=style,height:22;border:0 black none;] |

[scrolly:h(230),w(390),sy,as(padding:4px;margin-top:10px;margin-left:10px;)] He had held onto his pose, keeping her hand in his and tightening his grip when she tried to pull away. He was not letting her simply slipping away when he had now completely humiliated himself in front of her. When she finally spoke he just about wanted to shoot himself right then and there, however, he had gotten what he wanted out of her. Sort of. Though if she kept treating him like some sort of pet… ugh… this woman was so frustrating. Then, of all the things she could do, she ruffled his hair. It was enough to cause him to finally let go of her hand, falling back on his bottom has he attempted to sheild himself from further torture. “Why is it always the hair girls go for?” He snapped a little as his sat there, pouting a bit before finally picking himself back up. Once he was back on his feet he began to fiddle with his hair, checking to see how messed up it really was before finally deciding to take the ponytail out to fix it. ‘Damn woman and their inability to mess with ones hair…’ [/scrolly] [bg=black] |

"Why wear it like that if you're not advertising?" she teased after a few moments. None of the other guys she knew got this worked up, and they didn't even put as much- if any- effort into theirs. Though.. she supposed that could do it: the frustration of not being able to get it right again. Eh, in her mind, she really couldn't say with her own terribly flat hair. Well, whatever. It was still silly.[/scrolly] | [atrb=style,border:0 black none;] | [atrb=style,height:22;border:0 black none;] |
