Shinji was happy that Nico finally accepted help from him. That girl was so stubborn. He then stood up from under the tarp and said to Nico, "Have you ever wanted to go swimming in the rain?" He had always wanted to do that, and finally found a chance to. Shinji was so happy, but then again, he had never wanted to go swimming on a dark night in the rain alone.....

Nicodemus looked back at him, snuggled up in her own blanket, warmth finally flooding through her icy veins. He was smiling, and she was smiling back. How could she not? She had a slight buzz, and she was warm, and she had company. It wasn't often she got to talk to someone, albeit someone her own age. It was refreshing, and now that she wasn't as quick out things as she usually was, she didn't think she'd be sending him on his way very soon, or for that matter, sending herself anywhere. It was cold outside, raining, and it would be safer in this little alcove than heading out under the clouds of lightning and thunder. She'd rather hang out for a little while, sleep over the storm, and head out at first light, when the rain had finally stopped.
And then he suggested something almost crazy.
The girl found herself grinning, "You? You wanna go dancin' with the Sharpedoes?" She never thought she'd run into someone who'd be so reckless, so daring, so bold, considering an action as he was suggesting. She could see what could happen: Pneumonia, sharpedo attacks, drowning, lightning, boat crashes, the list went on and on. Still, Nicki could see her daring the waves and all their power to take her down. God, how'd she enjoy it. Still, it was bad enough she'd just borrowed clothes. She wasn't dumb enough to go out in fresh clothes and soak them, and bring on sickness later. No, she'd pass the waves. Maybe sometime in the summer, when cold wasn't a problem, and she could enjoy the humidity.

"You don't wanna go?" Shinji asked her. He could see by the look on her face that she didnt like the idea. "So, you got any ideas for fun we could do?" Shinji asked her. She'd probably say no, but it was worth a shot asking.

Nicki looked out the cave entrance, water pelting down from the heavens, covering every inch of earth in fresh, clean water. The girl had never thought it would be so hard to stay dry, to not want to go out and enjoy the chill of the air dancing along her skin. . . But she couldn't. Not tonight. She couldn't go out there. She looked back over at Shin, "Not tonight, I don't."
Then she realized, with Shinji's words, there really wasn't anything to do in the tiny little cave she'd found for shelter. "Um. . ." she looked around, stupidly, as if the rocks that littered the floor would hold the answer somehow as she fidgeted nervously. She'd never actually stopped to talk to someone face-to-face, not like this, where the confrontation was almost forced. "We could. . ." They could what? What could they do? She shivered in her blanket and curled it tighter around her body, willing it to warm her cold bones. Her hair was plastered against her neck and she could feel a numbing feeling in her fingertips and toes. She'd warm up and dry off eventually, but it was still taking painstakingly long.
She snapped her fingers as she found an answer to Shinji's questions. "Wanna play twenty-one questions?" She used to play the game when she was little with her sister, before 'It' happened, before that unfortunate day happened. That day destroyed her life and family, but it didn't ruin the game for her.

Shinji thought it over. "Sure, why not?" He said. At least it was something for him to do that night. There really was nothing to do that night in that cave. Nothing, except for play games like 21 questions, or something to do with rocks. Shinji began to think.

Nicki nodded and smiled in triumph. "Right then. You guess first." She leaned back into the rock, the cool stone making her shiver while she thought of a subject for Shinji to guess on. Quickly skimming through everything in her brain, she found absolutely nothing in her arsenal in her objects for the game she intended on playing. She grinned sheepishly, looking back at Shinji. "Scratch that, you take first go." Nicodemus watched as her breath billowed out before her eyes, the cold seeping in to take even the last hints of warmth, leaving them with only fog to remind them what warm air felt like on their skin.
She blinked, stifling a shiver ripping through her back due to a stray drop of rainwater trickling past the boundaries of the cave entrance and onto her neck, allowing gravity to pull it down toward the earth, and down her spine. The girl watched Shinji, head almost cocked to the side, like a curious Poochyena, "Ready?" She smiled, actually excited. She hadn't played this game since she was a mere child, with a family, and now the ghosts of her past had caught up with her again. But not in a threatening, menacing presence as they all had any time before. Now, she felt her own ghost of happiness sneaking up on her, pulling out of the depths of her spirit, and surprisingly enough, no alcohol was needed for the smile on her face. She was enjoying herself, drug-free and perfectly sober. Nothing had felt this good in a very, very long time, despite the cruel elements around her.
Shinji seemed focused, his stare lost among the stones as he seemed to puzzle upon what his choice would be. Nicki could scarcely hold back a giggle, at his silly sense of concentration. It was a game, not the meaning of life. It wasn't too hard to find something to let someone guess on, even if she couldn't actually think of something herself. Still, he was taking forever.
