Red eyes raised and lowered every few seconds, and muscles churned out a wiping motion of a rag as Lyall Zander waited impatiently for ten o'clock. There were only a few more minutes left, and then he would shove out the customers that he had at the moment and close the bar for the night. Though it would probably suck for business to close, seeing as it had been booming in the recent weeks after the attacks on the capital -- that he still wasn't happy about but uh money wise er yeah--, Lyall had what he considered to be a very good reason for doing so. It was his birthday, and damn it he was going to have a bar night in. He'd made sure to let the Black Knights know -- not to tempt them with free beer or anything but, heh-- and he'd made a more subtle note to his family on such.
And as the hand on the clock on the far wall finally struck, Lyall was up in a flash, more or less excusing the bar and himself to the general patrons of said institution and explaining that the bar was closing early. A few were not too pleased but complied, and with that, Lyall slowly closed the doors of the bar. Now for the real fun, heh..... "Break out the expensive shit! It's my birthday! he all but shouted to no one in general.

When the time finally did arrive, Carly hopped off of the bar stool she'd been sitting on and walked/skipped over to Lyall just as he practically ordered for the best stuff to be brought out. Watching Lyall was so amusing that Carly had almost forgotten that her mother had practically forced her to don jeans and a long-sleeve shirt but Carly had managed to get by with her blue lace-lined tank top and her jeans jacket though the jacket had been removed almost the instant she had entered the bar. There really had been no use wearing a jacket inside and who cared if the guys stared a little more ... Carly welcomed the attention even though she knew that Lyall wouldn't let any of the guys touch her. "Excited are we?"Carly asked in a teasing voice, laughing softly as she did so,"You're acting just like a little kid at Christmas~." Of course Carly was only teasing, but it was always so much fun to tease Lyall, and he wasn't about to get away with it just because it was his birthday either.[/scrolly] |

Alex froze.
Birth....dofcourse she remembered that! She wasn't a terrible friend or anything! She'd wondered why he was closing early but hadn't wanted to look dumb by asking and now was glad she hadn't.
Jumping a little awkwardly, she cracked what she hoped was a more wry than nervous smile and turned around to--wait who was that girl? From this angle she could only see some cute little blonde, and she hadn't seen anyone come in due to trying to get all the tables bused, which was taking longer than usual due to her leg still not being fully recovered after the bombings about a month before. (She'd made it quite clear to Iris not. to say. a word.) Now, as she tried to get a better loo--
OH that was Lyall's little sister, all right. Awesome. She'd kept a calm smile the whole time, but mentally breathed a sigh of relief. She'd talked to the girl a few times in passing, and she was... interesting. But Alex would be lying if she said she wasn't often glad to have the excuse of being busy with work to keep the girl at bay. Some people were just so... hyper. Maybe that wasn't exactly the word for it, but so much... wild energy, she supposed.. It just grated her a little. Still, she could generally put up with most people well enough as long as it wasn't for too very long or too often, so this was cool-
... Oh lord... Who was that girl in the booth in the corner? That wasn't..? ... Alex fought the urge to leer; it was. It was that girl who religiously hit on Lyall every time she came in. Oh, this was going to be such a fun night...
-----
In her seat in the corner, Delilah was actually behaving herself pretty well. When Lyall'd begun ushering people out, she'd asked why and then asked to stay when she'd found out. She was a regular, fellow rebel, and she liked to think some odd sort of friend, after all. She even offered to reimburse him if she drank too much (though mostly she was hoping by the end of the night he just wouldn't remember how much she'd drunk... |3 Heh). But for now, she was just slowly sipping at the last drink she'd ordered before they'd closed, surveying the small selection of guests... and waiting.

"Hey, hey, Christmas is in two days. We can do that then. This is my birthday," he insisted with an overly proud grin on his features. Stepping sideways, he walked around towards the back and disappeared for a moment: as it seemed he came to the realization that he needed to get what he'd ordered. Coming back in with an entire cask under one arm, he continued to grin as he set the large barrel of sorts on the counter. Of course the thing was all but half-way off the counter, but it had been situated well enough to where it probably wouldn't fall. "Maaaaaaaaaan I haven't had this in forever and a half. Mmm I love Sherry... .some rich Amontillado right here ," Lyall grinned even more before actually assessing those that were still in his bar. Eh, more would come when they came~ Reaching up, he began to pull glasses down from where they hung. [/scrolly] |

When Lyall stepped out back, Carly looked around to see who else was still here for the party ... well, there was Alex and then that girl in the corner that she saw hanging around Lyall a lot ... something which she found mildly irritating if not annoying when it seemed that she spent more time with Lyall than Carly was able to. Of course it wasn't for lack of trying but still, it had been a while since Carly had spent what she would consider real time with her brother so it was all right if she was a little .... jealous ... right ... right. By the time Lyall had brought out the drink that he had 'ordered' Carly was fighting the urge to leer at the woman but instead walked back over to the bar just in time to hear Lyall talk about the sherry causing Carly to giggle yet again."You're still a dork ya know~,"she teased, giggling a little more,"I'm guessing this is stronger than what you usually make me huh. Course I don't know much about drinks but then I did just start a few months back so I at least know what I like." Glancing at the casket that Lyall had just brought out, Carly wondered what the sherry would taste like though part of her was glad that her mom wasn't there right then because there was no doubt that she would scold her ... or at least Carly thought she would but then again she couldn't be quite certain. "So what's the game plan for tonight?"Carly asked curiously,"I mean other than attempting to see my brother wasted for the first time~,"she teased, sticking her tongue out playfully at him. It was always so much fun to tease Lyall after all, but then that didn't mean she couldn't have a little fun at his expense right, right.[/scrolly] |

[ Alex / Delilah ] [scrolly:h(280),w(400),sy,as(margin:15px 5px 15px 30px;padding-right:10px;)]At the word 'amontillado', a hand flew to Delilah's face in an attempt to stifle a wild giggle. Only the smallest sound escaped, which she hoped no one had heard, but she had managed to spew a bit of her drink onto her palm. Shuddering more mentally than physically, she quickly gulped what was still in her mouth and reached for a napkin for both her hand and lips. Even as she did, her thoughts returned to just what had been so funny in the first place, making her smirk. Meanwhile, Alex just blinked a bit at the barrel and finished gathering a few things from her last table onto a tray before hobbling over on her crutch. Staring at the liquor a bit longer, she finally dared ask, "How long have we had that?" Had she really never noticed it? Or had Lyall maybe brought it in recently just for this? Well, she supposed this was part of the reason she wasn't a bartender. At some point, one of the other Knights came in from the back and found a seat, probably waiting for a friend or to see what was going to happen with the festivities. Alex shot him a small smile and nod, but quickly returned her attention to Lyall and Carly. Since they'd locked the front door, she assumed anyone who'd been invited (Alex was actually now recalling maybe some vague mention of invitation, and now that she thought she did know his birthday was close to Christmas; it had just slipped her mind how close, somehow) knew to come in through the back. As Carly went on, Alex honestly zoned in and out a bit, eternally grateful her own voice was more.. neutral.. But then- "Wait, you've never seen him wasted?" She visibly thought on it for a moment, then her gaze went slowly from Carly to Lyall. "You know, I don't think I have either... " With her memory tonight she wasn't going to bet money on that, (along with the fact that she got tipsy herself easily enough and may well have just been too out of it to remember if they ever had been too drunk), but she couldn't actually think of any time specifically at the moment. As Alex and Carly focused on the liquor, Delilah finally brought her empty glass and moved from her booth to the bar, still keeping a slight distance for now. Loud enough to still announce her presence, though, she asked Lyall, "Are you actually celebrating your birthday with a cask of amontillado?" Again she had to fight the urge to giggle, but did better this time, only borderline grinning. Alex... tried, and reached, but eventually had to admit she had no idea to what woman could possibly be referring. "...What about it?" She didn't appreciate the somewhat haughty glance gold-splashed eyes gave her, but her brown ones just gave a light leer in turn before rolling- not that Delilah had noticed, looking back to Lyall as quickly as she'd glanced away. She KNEW what today was, and she meant to be at the bar an hour ago. However, it seemed every possible force was trying to keep her home. First, she slept in, then, while getting dressed, she'd misplaced her lucky knife. After finding that, she bolted out the door, called out Knight, and RACED to the bar.
Swearing to herself, she knew it'd closed early already. Pulling around to the back, so as not to draw attention to herself, she dismounted, returned the Ponyta, and slipped into the back. Trying to shake off the bad mood for Lyall's day, she strolled into the bar, wearing....something very uncharacteristic of Iris. It was a suit, like she usually wore, but she had on layers, and there wasn't any skin showing. She didn't expect anyone else to know this, but...she had her reasons. Finding Lyall, she walked over.
"Sorry I'm late," she murmured. She looked around the room, surveying the surroundings.

"He--y..." he started, but Alex seemed to chime in after. "Hey hey hey... I don't get wasted..." he stated before sticking his tongue out and shaking his head. "Just enough to get tipsy." That being said, Lyall would never admit just how many drinks were supposed to make him 'tipsy' when it came down to it. Given he had, or at least thought he had, a rather high tolerance for the drink, being a bartender and all, Lyall was sure that he knew his limit.
As a voice caused red eyes to move away, Lyall smirked a little at Delilah. "Why not" he asked frowning a bit if only for a second. "It's got a pretty good taste." The fact that he hadn't read and didn't have a clue about the implications of a cask of Amontillado the joke went perpetually over his head.
Meanwhile, a somewhat young Black Knight had been slipping in the back only to nearly bump into Iris as she passed him. Having dodged like some extreme ninja, the young man now stood with his back pressed against a wall and a hand over his heart trying to cool it. For a mixture of reasons, he didn't even want to seem like he had bumped into the woman at all. Thankfully, she didn't seem to notice him, and he was able to slip into a seat a bit a ways away.
As Iris spoke, Lyall turned his head away for a moment and looked towards her. A momentary cheesy sort of grin came to his face "Hey awesome timing," he called.

The joke went over Carly's head as well, though she thought the name sounded vaguely familiar ... oh well, no use in trying to figure it out right then anyway ... moving on~. Hearing Lyall basically shrug off the girl's comment ... what was her name again ... bah, it wasn't her job to remember the name of every person who frequented the bar anyway so who cared ... especially that girl. When another person walked into the room, Carly turned to see who it was and immediately recognized her as Iris ... of course she should Lyall tended to hang out with her a lot. Waving at Iris, Carly turned back to Lyall,"So are ya going to open it or what?"she teased, poking fun at how excited her brother was about drinking the amontillado in the first place.[/scrolly] |

[ Alex / Delilah ] [scrolly:h(280),w(400),sy,as(margin:15px 5px 15px 30px;padding-right:10px;)] Lilah sighed and rolled her eyes lightly- though playfully- as exactly no one caught the reference. "Never mind, it's... Poe.. Just don't wander into any dark cellars tonight," she joked somewhat dryly, knowing she was her only target audience. And people tended to just magically assume she wouldn't be well-read. Clearly these 'normal' people with their hard-working 'real' jobs were much more educated than the 'tramp'. It was just as clear that she couldn't possibly have a day job just because it wasn't an advertised thing. Well, no sense dwelling. "Don't rush 'im," Alex teased in return, not quite laughing but close. "Ya've gotta saaavor it. Wouldn't want an ounce of such fine liquor going unsniffed." All right, fine. So Lyall's sister had her moments. This night should turn out just fine from the looks of it~ She'd notice Iris and didn't intend to ignore her; she'd just given her the same quick glance and smile she'd given and would give various other Knights as they came in. Delilah, on the other hand, smiled with rather more focus on the woman. "Party's just getting started~" she offered casually. Really, the olive-skinned woman didn't think it was any secret she wasn't very fond of the recent arrival at all, but her reasons for that were quite petty, and certainly no reason to be uncivilized or anything~ [/scrolly][/td][/tr][/table]

"Seemed like every force that could tried to keep me from getting here." Those purple eyes continued to scan the room. She recognized both Carly and Delilah, though she really didn't know either all that well. But she wasn't exactly fond if the latter.
"A Poe reference, really? Never woulda pinned you for the type," she snorted at Delilah, though making it sound more playful than she meant it. Or, considering her mood, she may have only thought she'd made it sound more playful. Who could tell with Iris, anyway?

As Delilah explained it was some literary allusion, Lyall ended up laughing a little but still not really getting it. "No dark cellars? Heh, fine, fine... I'll just get someone else to bring up seconds and stuff," he answered back with a cheesy grin.
As Carly spoke again, Lyall smirked a little. "I a-" he started, yet as Alex spoke, the leader of the Black Knights couldn't help but look sideways and grin in a sort of 'thanks'. Looking back towards Iris as she spoke, Lyall chuckled. "Well it's a good thing ya got here then," he answered before actually turning back to the cask. "Now then..." he hummed a little before actually popping the cask and setting up the knob of sorts. Standing up a moment, he reached over and pulled over a glass before actually starting to fill the first glass. A rather interesting laugh of sorts was escaping Lyall as he handed out the cup and then filled another and another. Ah~ The smell was just great.

Of course, now she remembered ... meh ... she would've gotten it eventually, ah well, the night was still young. At Iris' comment about the Poe reference, Carly found herself giggling softly as well ... of course it made sense since Poe was rather dark and the woman seemed so ... not dark. Then again, Carly didn't know (or want to know) the woman very well so Carly couldn't say for certain whether or not the obnoxious flirt was dark. Hearing Lyall begin to speak, Carly turned her attention back to her brother only to laugh slightly at Alex's return tease. Not that she really knew why you would want to sniff the amontillado but then again, what did she know,"If ya say so Alex~,"she replied before turning her attention back to Lyall who had just opened up the casket and proceeded to fill up some glasses. Well now ... the stuff actually did smell good~, who knew ... well of course Lyall knew and Alex knew ... but that was beside the point, besides Carly had more things to do than figure out why anyone would have to smell wine or alcohol in the first place. Hearing Lyall's laugh of sorts served to bring a smile to Carly's face as she watched him continue to fill up the glasses, as much as she enjoyed teasing her brother it was certainly good to see him so happy for once ... and not working.[/scrolly] |

[ Alex / Delilah ] [scrolly:h(280),w(400),sy,as(margin:15px 5px 15px 30px;padding-right:10px;)] Delilah gave a small laugh at Iris's response that would have been barked had she opened her mouth. As intended, the slight muffle made it come off just a little less bitter than it really was; the eternal smirk probably helped a bit too. "I get that a lot.." she half-teased back, clearly-feigning disappointment, said smirk falling for just that long and returning almost immediately. In a more flippant tone, she added, "I don't suppose you'd pin me for having a bed covered in stuffed animals or walls covered in drawings, either." Or anything else that doesn't involve sex or drinking came the rather more venomous thought, but her smirk remained unchanged. ...Not that the plushes in question weren't often swept off the bed for certain reasons, but Lilah was always certain to pick them all back up the next day (and if she ever forgot, Emery usually did it for her, heh). Eh, she knew she brought the impression on herself, to an extent. She just wished people weren't so judgmental. She'd met nobles who were charismatic, hard-working, devoted, and selfless; nobles who wouldn't give someone like her-- which was to say someone worth less than six digits at any given moment-- the time of day; and nobles who would rather play video games than politics. She'd met rebels and hobos of noble birth, and flat broke loyalists who valued the stability of the crown more than they blamed it for their personal situations. She'd seen people born in poverty work their way up to pretty respectable careers, and at least knew of people who had become extremely successful from nothing. .... Heh. It was really sort of amusing, in a twisted way. Delilah both hated and adored the human race, the prior for its tendencies and the latter for its potential, but the only judgement calls she tended to make quickly were the ones involving whether or not a guy looked like he might be worth pursuing or not. She didn't judge them because she knew from experience that people were so diverse and often surprising. And she knew this because she met so many people in her 'line of work', for which she herself was judged. That was irony, at least in her mind. She supposed walking in another's shoes was a bit cliche, but she also liked to think that hers in particular would show someone more than just her sympathetic points, heh... ............ That said, Iris was a bartender and also met assloads of people in her line of work, so she really didn't have much excuse. That bitch~ -- Meanwhile, Alex cocked an eyebrow and gave a slightly questioning chuckle at Carly's response. Had it not been clear that she was joking? She was sure she'd done pretty well about that. ..Eh. Ah we-- Waitasecond. Her focus snapped to Lyall for several moments and-- he was actually savoring the smell wasn't he, wow just-- She gave a laugh that was definitely not a giggle except it was, though it was quickly stifled and then let out slower is a bit softer, deeper chuckle. "You're terrible, you know.." she half-sighed, though she supposed she could understand savoring the first bit. "Does smell pretty great, though."...Annnd this was probably actually her job, huh. Only half thinking about it, Alex took a few glasses (once Lyall got that far) and took them over to some of the Knights who'd come in earlier. A few more had since arrived, but she planned to do first come first served, at least as best as she could keep track. Once the first set was delivered, she went back for more. Not many people would take such pride in a job like hers, but Alex was happy to have it, at least so long as she kept the best boss ever~ [/scrolly][/td][/tr][/table]

"Actually, that I can see." Just don't clue me in on the subject matter, came the harsh afterthought that the woman almost spoke out loud. But despite her mood, Iris figured it better NOT to start a fight now. Maybe save that for when both were boozed up a little.
It wasn't that Iris couldn't see the deeper side of people, it was that she usually didn't care. Most people like that weren't really worth getting to know, in her opinion.
Never in all Iris's life was she so happy to see alcohol being passed around. It wasn't that she was a devout non-drinker or anything, she just...had her reasons. But today was different. She looked back at Lyall, forcing a smile, trying to force her bad mood elsewhere so she could have a good time.

"Not terrible, just a good sense of smell and taste," he answered back chuckling a little. As Alex started to help, Lyall simply continued to fill up until he'd set a good number of drinks on the bar to be passed out here and there. However, he did stop a moment and looked back towards those in the immediate vicinity. "Hey be careful with this, mkay?" Lyal asked handing a drink to Carly and eying her a little. It wasn't that he didn't trust her with a drink. She was twenty-one and whatnot. However, she was also more used to the incredibly fruity drinks he prepared for her, and Lyall honestly didn't know how she'd react, really.
Though Lyall was aware of Delilah and Iris's words, didn't have much to comment on... either that or he simply didn't comment on what had come to mind, the more likelier of the two, really. Instead, he stepped forwards with two glasses in hand and held one out to Iris and the other out to Delilah. "Come on let's celebrate," he grinned a little cheesy. After that, he picked up his own drink and took a sip. Ah~ now this was nice. It had been too long since he had actually had a chance to have a glass like that, and damn it all he was savoring it!

Though if things continued to progress between Iris and the woman there might be a cat fight ... hmmm, now that would be amusing to watch, especially if that woman was the loser.
Hearing Alex speak up again, Carly giggled slightly,"Well of course~ Lyall did say he wanted to get the best and most expensive stuff out so it makes sense that it'd smell good,"she retorted before looking back at Lyall just as he set a glass before her and warned her to be careful. Though Lyall probably meant well by warning her to be careful, it brought a rush of heat to Carly's face ... he just ... Lyall didn't just ... . Embarrassment filled Carly and for a moment all she did was stare at the glass before picking it up and looking at Lyall with a more stubborn and determined expression,"I'll be fine,"Carly replied rather curtly before taking a much bigger drink of the amontillado than she should have. Setting the glass down, Carly smiled up at Lyall as if to say 'see I'm fine' when ... shit . Her throat felt as if it was on fire and it was all Carly could do to pretend everything was fine ... though if someone tried to talk to her at that moment, Carly wasn't even really sure that she could do that much even. Shit ... she should have listened to Lyall ... damnit ... . Clearing her throat, Carly breathed out quietly, willing herself to act normally until thankfully the sensation passed. OK ... note to self, never drink that much at one time ever again.[/scrolly] |

[ Alex / Delilah ] [scrolly:h(280),w(400),sy,as(margin:15px 5px 15px 30px;padding-right:10px;)] "Mm?" Lilah blinked a bit in response to Iris's comment, honestly a little confused. The way she said it just didn't seem to make sense, but she couldn't seem to.... Oh but.. 'I'll bet you do'...? ....AH! A bit of a spontaneous giggle escaped the woman, a limp hand raising to her mouth as if to stifle it. "Oh wow. No, I can't draw people to save my life, if that's what you were thinking." This whole thing was really very amusing to her. "It's almost all..." She faltered, huffing a tiny sigh of frustration. "I know it's not 'fractal' art because that's only when it's computer-generated.. but that general type of thing at any rate. ..And a few bunnies I've tried to convince myself don't look too terrible." The last few words were almost as much laughed as spoken. And about that time--- Hel-lo~ Her favorite bartender had never looked quite so appealing~<3 (Which is to say, he'd never handed her an expensive drink for currently-free. X3) Positively beaming, Delilah took her glass and raised it slightly. "To the greatest bartender I know~" she chimed lightly before throwing back a bit. She didn't down too much, though- partially because she didn't want to get drunk too fast or go through too much before Lyall was drunk enough to stop keeping tabs, but also partially because oh dear gods it was so delicious. She had to stop mid-drink to savor it, her pleasure evident on her face. --- Once Alex had finished handing out to all the guests who'd already arrived, she returned to the bar for her own glass.. just in time to barely notice Carly's ordeal. With a soft chuckle, she offered to the girl, "You'll get use' to't." She winked at her with a playful smirk. She really didn't seem to be doing too bad, but that long pause had said a little itself. ...You know. That, and it was just turning out to be kind of fun to tease her in general. ... o.o? Actually.. As Alex leaned back against the counter and sipped at her glass, a thought occurred, and her eyes trailed back over to Carly. That... might work...? Hm. For now, she just weighed the pros and cons and continued enjoying her drink in silence. [/scrolly][/td][/tr][/table]

That seemed to be the better response, since she was really implying that all she thought Delilah was good for involved a guy and a bed. Not that Iris had any room to talk. She wasn't exactly slutty, but given the right circumstances, anyone would stand a chance with her, albeit a small one. Especially considering the woman had her head clouded with a certain someone these days.
Iris smiled, taking the drink from Lyall, without much of a word except "Thanks~" Then, she took a sip, mostly savoring the flavor, the other part of her taking her time. Trying to calculate her every drink so as not to get too drunk--especially too fast. Setting the cup down after another sip, she took off her jacket, revealing her bright purple blouse under the suit. Though she had a motive for dressing in such layers, the downside to that was it was getting hot pretty quick. Oh well, she'd live, right? As long as she was careful, everything would be fine. Just watch your drinking, Iris. Watch your drinking...

Though he didn't say it outright, it was actually very nice to be appreciated~ After a moment, he raised his own glass a little but said nothing before taking another sip. Ah~ This was the start of a great night. Lyall was sure of it.
Lyall's eyebrow raised a little as he watched Carly take such a large sip of the drink, and somewhere in the back of his mind he wondered just how badly that was stinging in the back of her throat. What? No of course he hadn't learned that from experience. No of course not. "What did I tell ya?" he asked teasingly before smirking a little more and finishing off his own drink rather suddenly. "On to the next one!" he laughed a little before walking over with his cup and making to refill. Was he going a bit too fast? Maybe, but damn it this was his birthday. [/scrolly] |
